grouse hunting in eastern PA.?

looking to do some grouse hunting when the season starts. any idea on where a good place to go in eastern pa. is. i'd imagine some where in the Poconos but i'm fairly new to this state.

All you need to scout for this from where you live, at least as far as the Poconos goes, is two things.

1. SGL maps. Available online at the PGC website.

2. Google Earth.

Print out the SGL .pdf maps. Pull up the site on Google Earth. Then look for Hemlock groves next to shrubby areas (most likely blueberry).

Also, the PennPilot site often has what is called a "Birdseye View" which is low altitude aerial photos to give you more informative view than the other high altitude stuff.

Excellent scouting tool for long range scouting.

Had around 20 flushes in the Gaines area in Tioga county last year. My brother-inlaw lives near Shahola lake hasn't had much luck in the past 10 years or so. I did hear that there was grouse last year around the Tuscarora park near Tamaqua.

Almost forgot. Check the WCO field reports on the PGC website. They give a pretty good preseason idea of what species are doing well in that area.
