    Default SBR Caliber engraving question

EDIT: I see this is mentioned elsewhere, but i didn't see if having all the cals listed is required?

I want to get a jump start on my form 1 SBR build by getting my lower engraved. However the lower i want to use has "Multi" listed as the caliber.

Will this be enough to satisfy the ATF/NFA requirement for the caliber being engraved on the lower/barrel?

    If not, would you engrave

    Cal: 5.56/.22LR/9mm
    or
    Caliber: 5.56/.22LR/9mm
    or
    Just one caliber listing?
    or
    some other variation?

Also, would SHIP be a suitable abbreviation for Shippensburg?

    thanks!

Pick one caliber for the paper work. It doesnt matter what you swap the upper to after its yours. Do as you wish once you have your stamp, but only write one on your form.

The engraving must be complete: Name, City, State (PA is ok)

Yeah just pick one caliber. They used to approve with many calibers listed (9mm, 22lr, 45acp, etc)but not any more.

In their eyes you are building a rifle in one barrel length and caliber like a regular manufacturer, plus I think that they changed the computer program and it can only accept one caliber.

    and on the rifle?
since it's marked MULTI from spikes, i assume i put CAL: 5.56 along with my name, town, state?

You dont need to engrave the caliber on the gun. Just name and city-state. The form just list 556

also, as a reminder, someone who is not a licensed manufacturer, or is NOT making a NFA firearm has NO requirement to mark ANYTHING on the firearm

The way I read the regulation above as long as the lower is engraved with my name, city and state I'd be ok provided the upper or barrel is engraved with the caliber?
I was going to call the ATF tomorrow to ask about the caliber question, I'm building a SBR in 6.8 but would plan on switching out to 5.56 if it made more sense down the road. My plan was to send in a letter with my paperwork. Sounds like that isn't needed or recommended?

Wrong.... Maybe you need to read the law as posted above. If you file the ATF Form 1 then you are now making a NFA Firearm...

Build it as a 6.8, if you decide to put a 5.56 upper on it no problem, put it on and shoot away.

If its a permanent change then you can notify the ATF on that change.

Just pick one caliber initially and send in the paperwork.
