    Default Recoil pads

Im looking for a good recoil pad un the under $40 range that will last some time, and can be comfortably worn by myslef and my wife. Sometimes the bigger rifles can be a bit much after a long day at the range, and she isnt a fan of most of the long guns because of this (and would like her to ahave the practice in, and maybe shoot some trap).

Ive seen a few online, but none of the stores ever seem to have one in that I can get a reccomendation on from staff.

Check on line at Brownells (they have 306 different recoil pads listed), midwayUSA, Natchez, MidSouth, et al. They almost all give a good description of what they do for you. That said, remember that if you put on a thick recoil pad, you may have to cut the stock down so that it still has the same length of pull. If you do, keep the piece that is cut off, you may want to reinstall it at a later time (and if done right, it will hardly be noticeable).

I was thinking of a wearable recoil pad, not one for a stock. Too many to buy then, and too much alteration of some of the rifles.

Oops, must have skipped over the "worn" part.

Here is something I found at midwayUSA:

The PAST Mag Shield is designed to let you concentrate on hitting the target more and less on recoil. The comfortable leather cover conforms to the body while the energy-absorbing foam insert dramatically reduces felt recoil. Securing system has been redesigned and directions are in the process of being updated.

    Technical Information

Material: Leather Covered 1/2" Energy Absorbing Foam

    Recommended Uses:
    # Provides Protection From Recoil From Rifles Up to 300 Win. Mag

    Notes:
    # Ambidextrous
    # Body Shaped (Over the Shoulder and Onto the Arm Design)
    # Gives the Most Protection During the 2 Millisecond Peak of Recoil
    # May be Tan or Dark Brown in Color

    Warranty:
    # 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects

If you go to midwayUSA and do a search on "recoil" it's just about the bottom of the first page. There are more shown on page 2 of the search, including some made for woman only.

The only one I know of and can comment on is a slip-on type. After a couple hundred rounds out of my M44, I realized if I wanted to continue lifting things with my right arm, I needed a recoil pad.

So off I went to our local purveyor of cheap Made in China garbage (Wal-Mart) and picked up a slip-on recoil pad for the princely sum of $10.

I don't know if this will suit your purposes, but in my case, it was $10 very well spent (and I probably fed a Chinese family of 30 for a week).

Thanks to arthritis we bought a Past Magnum Pad several years ago and it really works. Their pad and their glove have allowed us to continue shooting the heavier fun stuff.
