    Default Hunter Education

Is there any special reason why I as an older adult HAVE to take HE here in PA?

I lived in Indiana where, because of my age, I did not need to have the course. When I lived in Missouri, I did not need it either because I was born before 1965.

So I move here becuase of employment and now just to shoot the squirrels in my back yard I have to take the course.

I am NOT against the course. I believe in its purpose. But where are the options for new residents?

I had thought that a previous hunting license from any state was valid as proof for issuing a license - however, I can't locate that on the PGC website. Maybe a call to a PGC office would clear this up as a possible option?

Oh yeah, welcome to the Johnstown region ... I'm a few miles out of town and there are a few other PAFOA'ers in the area too.

I have never held a hunting license from any state. So I would not have anything to show PA. I just happened to live in two states that because of my age, the course it not required.

But why the difference between that states with regard to older hunters?

I would highly recommend taking the course, I went through it (again) with my daughter a while ago and it was still very informative and helpful.

I highly recommend taking the course as well. You can learn a lot.

But when I just went to walmart to get my license, the lady only asked for my driver's license. Never asked about HE course...but I had my card ready just in case.

HA I just read on the PGC website where anyone who wants a license HAS to take a course...

I was in line at Gander Mtn and they issued a license after some debate to a guy who admitted he didn't take the course. They told him that as long as he was 18 he didn't have to have one.. hahahaha.

If you produce the license you hunted with in previous years in other states to a licenser, you probably would be able to get a license. That and you've been a resident of the state for 30 days.

EDIT: Just read above that you never held a license. That sucks. You might have to bite the bullet and take the course. It'd be informative anyway.
