Default Kudos to the Lycoming County Sheriff's Office

I received a letter today from the Lycoming County Sheriff's Office. It was a reminder my LTCF would expire in a month and I should renew it. Can you imagine that? I thought that was a really nice thing to do and was above and beyond the duty of the office.

I was in the office about six weeks ago and they are all a bunch of great people. Unless you have a guilty conscience, there is no need to feel "afraid" to walk in there.

It is not "above and beyond" - it is infact completely within the scope of their duty, and required as per 18 Pa. C.S § 6109(f)(2):

At least 60 days prior to the expiration of each
license, the issuing sheriff shall send to the licensee an
application for renewal of license. Failure to receive a
renewal application shall not relieve a licensee from the
    responsibility to renew the license.

Was this law passed within the past 5 years? I have renewed my LTCF each 5 years for the past 50 years and this is the first time I ever got a notice.

Wow... did they even have guns back then?
    .
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Indeed, and if the Sheriff didn't include an application with the notice, he's still not in compliance with that section of 18 Pa. C.S § 6109. Not to mention the matter of timing for the notice he received.

Not quite "Above and beyond" , they're not even up to par.

Was there a different sheriff 5 years ago?

Actually, part of the LTCF fee is supposed to go for mailing out the notice mentioned above.

    §6109. Licenses

    <SNIP>

    (h) Fee.—

    (1) In addition to fees described in paragraphs (2)(ii) and (3), the fee for a license to carry a firearm is $19. This includes all of the following:

    (i) A renewal notice processing fee of $1.50.

(ii) An administrative fee of $5 under section 14(2) of the act of July 6, 1984 (P.L. 614, No. 127), [FN2] known as the Sheriff Fee Act.
