So What is the Differerence ?? SBR vs Pistol
Don't know if this the best place for this question. If not please move it. So when buying an upper for an AR-15 when is it considered a SBR versus a Pistol. I was thinking of having a custom AR-15 upper made. I see one that I'm interested in but it is listed as an SBR. It is 12" in length. I know that SBR's start at under 16" in length but is there a cut off to when it can be considered a pistol. Such as my OA-93 that has a 6.5" barrel. Thanks in advance for the info.

Anyone can buy any length upper they want. The key thing for the buyer is to make sure to have a sbr'd lower or a pistol lower to attach it to if it is less than 16".
You should not purchase an upper that is less than 16" and then attach it to a regular rifle lower. You will run into problems with the law for having a non registered SBR.

A pistol has never ever had a shoulder stock attached to it.
A SBR is a firearm where there was once or still has a should stock and the barrel length is less than 16" or the overall length is less than 26".RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

As stated above ... the seller is just CYA. If you have an upper with a barrel less than 16" you need one of the following:
1. A SBRed lower
2. Stripped lower that never had a buttstock attached
3. A lower set upped with a pistol buffer tube.

Re: So What is the Differerence ?? SBR vs Pistol
Well I currently have a dedicated pistol lower. I am interested in buying a 12" Beowulf upper. I was questioning this because the website stated all NFA rules apply. I just contacted AA and they said because it's just an upper no paperwork is required. Thanks for all the help.
