PGO shotgun makes sense only if that size is absolutely required. A folder may make more sense, however, don't believe any hype about it not being controllable if you are a man.

if i can only shoot it from the hip for any degree of accuracy.
Shooting from the hip is the least accurate way of shooting a PGS (or any other gun).

I bought a Mossberg PGS years ago. Still have it but now it has a full length stock on it. Why? It's easier to shoot, more controllable in terms of both firing and movement with the gun.
Most people that I have seen shooting a PGS from the hip are very surprised the first time that they try. Even at five yards, they miss. It can be done effectively but it ain't easy or intuitive. (at five yards from a Cylinder choked gun, the pattern is about 10 inches wide or less)

Nice for close range work but really a full stock shotgun is more versatile and easier to control the weapon. They look cool but I really don't see a need for just a pistol grip on a long gun. The full stock has a pistol grip built in.

I'm not fan of the pistol grip for shotguns. I like to shoulder the shotgun. Its more comfortable and I get better accuracy.

If it's going to be your only shotty, get one with a stock or a folder.
If you want it just for a house gun, go for it, make sure to take it out and practice with it.

Im really not a big fan of pistol grip shotties. Once I was at my range and the guy next to me was shooting a scoped 22 precisely into his expensive shoot N see targets. When I came up to shoot from the hip at my .01 cent paper plates I was so far to the left I hit all three of his targets! He was a little upset so I offered him some paper plates! Some people have no sense of humor. Well with all this said. My 18 inch pistol grip shotgun is still in a HD role hidden away somewhere only a pistol grip would fit.

I've shot pistol grip shotguns a lot and have no problem with them at all. I can be just as accurate with or without a stock and I've seen people bring clays out of the sky with them just as accurately as with a full shotgun.

It's all about preference and not over thinking it. You don't NEED to shoot a PGS from the hip...that's just ridiculous.

There is a Benelli Nova on the classified Forums. Take a look at the stock. It is a full stock with a full pistol grip. It apears like it would have both advantages but don't have any personal experience with it.
