I know this is a firearm's forum but....
I realize this is a firearms forum, but i have a question regarding knives. Can i legally carry a fix blade, 7 inch knife on me? I've been pondering this for a while and haven't been able to come up with a solid answer to this question i have. Maybe someone out there could lead me in the right direction, or has an answer to this. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be considered a dagger, but it probably depends on the circumstances. If you have a valid reason to be carrying it, sure why not. But if it's for "self defense," don't be surprised if a cop confiscates it upon discovery.
Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

The problem is PA really has no restiction on what is a knife......or a dagger. Meaning there is nothing that says what a "legal" blade length might be.
Carrying a folding Buck knife won't be a problem, but strapping on a USMC Ka-Bar knife?????

Re: I know this is a firearm's forum but....
Steve, in a rural area where i live in, something like a KA-BAR, which is the knife i'm talking about, does have its uses. It's not just for "self-defense". I just want to make sure that if i have it on me, i'm not going to get the third degree from our "town sheriff". From what i've kind of gathered from your post... it's more or less up to the descretion of the authority that is questioning the knife?

In a rural community, I wouldn't be too worried about it, so long as you're not flaunting it.
Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.

Ten times the action, total hardcore.

You need to check your local ordinances.
I lost my regular folding knife (for the 3rd time) so currently I've been carrying a mini Ka-bar. There aren't any ordinances in any of the townships i frequent against it.

Re: I know this is a firearm's forum but....
Question, I remember a long time ago I was told that if you carried a knife the blade could't be any longer than the width of your palm. I also remember something about maximum blade length of 3.5 inches. Anyone every hear of this?

Re: I know this is a firearm's forum but....
I thought PA had laws against carrying daggers, with their definition being a double-edged knife, or a knife with a T-handle. Think they used the terminology "push knife" for the latter.
I could be wrong.

Re: I know this is a firearm's forum but....
Of course, there's no pre-emption on knives. Only firearms.
Yes, I have heard the palm length maximum, but I've never found a law stating such. I'm sure the bigger city (Philly and Pitts) have knife length laws.
I've never heard the "dagger" law though. I don't have time to check the Prohibitive Offensive Weapon Statute, but I don't recall a dagger in there.
