Re: Question Duck and Turkey Loads for self defense?
You have to consider getting hit with a 450 to 550 grain slug at 1800fps with 2500ft lb of muzzle energy is going to completely destroy anything it contacts. The effects of being hit center of mass with a single slug is will -almost- garauntee your attacker will stop. It's something like 85-95% effective at stopping your attacker with a single shot.

Re: Question Duck and Turkey Loads for self defense?
What you like, and what works best can be completely different things.
What would you say is better, one big hole that penetrates to vital organs regardless of angle of impact, at all ranges inside the home, or several dozen very small holes that wont likely penetrate to vital organs from any angle of impact?
It is not hard to make a big hole in a quarter inch of plywood. My .410 using birdshot can do hat at 20 feet. But that does not mean that I think it would be a viable home defense gun."Kicking the darkness until it bleeds light."

Re: Question Duck and Turkey Loads for self defense?
That is no debate the Slug will do the job no doubt about it.
But I like dbl odd buck or triple odd buck or Duck/Turkey load alternating with odd buck. I like multiple hits with one trigger pull, for HD.
Your argument is well received that the Slug is the most powerful round out of a Shotgun. I'm not against Slugs I just prefer Dbl Odd buck.
And really 410 dbl odd huck or slug would be a potent HD Shotgun if that was all you had. IMHO.

I don't think that you are following my argument.

The Perfect Balance: Swan Shot!
A picture speaks a thousand words that even the people who just keep regurgitating "00 Buck" and "Buckshot" and "Birdshot is for da birds" nonsense can understand it. Well, maybe, I hope...

Not to be a spelling Nazi, but it is not "odd".. It is "aught".
"aught" means "zero", ...the number "0".
Examples:
Double aught buck = 00 buck
triple aught buck = 000 buck
.30-aught 6 = .30-06RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Ole charley took em down with his Swan gun.
I hate discussing bird shot.
Its good for checking function and 3 gun shoots, other than that I aught to use Buck shot.
