Best in Ear Hearing Protection

I've been on the lookout for some good hearing protection for awhile. I've always used the foam ear plugs. They do a decent job of protecting my hearing, but they never fit well and tend to get blown out of ears.

I'm not looking for a pair of muffs since I do mostly rifle shooting and do not want to interfere with a good cheek weld.

I looked into Sonic Defenders but I read they don't offer enough protection from gunfire.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've done a lot of reading, and I've decided to go with the muffs and earplugs combined. I've noticed a loss in my hearing (not firearm related) and I don't want to take any chances. The last time I shot indoors, I had short-term hearing loss because I didn't get my earmuffs on quick enough. I couldn't hear anything well for a few hours.

I'll lipread if I have to... I'm not ready to trust the electronic ones. The muffs I just purchased were less than $15 at Amazon and NRR 31.

Remember, ear plugs only protect from the shock of your ear drum directly from air traveled sound. They do not protect against the vibrations that your ear lobes pick up, and you can still get hearing damage from loud noises.

they do make good muffs that are sloped so you can get a good cheek weld.

Yep. I like to use plugs and electronic muffs and have no problem with shooting rifles. I use an older set of Browning muffs. Using this method, you have great sound protection and will still hear a range officer yelling "cease fire" or other important sounds that you might normally miss. Yea, electronic muffs are more expensive than regular ones, but well worth the extra safety, imo.

Suppressor. More expensive, but gets the job done better than anything else.

Suppressing a Mosin would be taking half the fun out of shooting it! Though it would be interesting to see it attempted.

have 2 pairs of these, they work great, little interference from your normal places, but i even use them when using the weedwacker in the yard.

Thanks for that link..... How do electronic hearing protection work? And what is a NRR rating or number?
