I don't find this statement amusing. I have an autistic son who also suffers from mental retardation, something he did not ask for. Any parent who has to realize that their child will never marry, never work, never drive or never have kids would probably feel the pain of your statement. I guess you never saw the joy in these kids' faces when they participate in the Special Olympics. Would you dare to walk up to them or their parents and call them "retarded"?

Can't we have an intelligent conversation without picking on people who cannot defend themselves???

It is in bad taste but try to remember, we tend only to get offended by things that hold relevant in our own lives. I'm sure you laugh (and tell) many jokes that are offensive to other people that can relate to those jokes as you stand on the outside of them.

But I hear what you're saying. If I was a priest, rabbi or a minister AND I owned a bar AND I walked into it frequently (perhaps carrying a duck)... I might be offended by most jokes.

Looks like the "rest of the internet" will have to disagree with both of us.

It's too bad people find humor with the size, color, religious beliefs, and disabilities of others. Calling it an internet joke doesn't change the hurt.
