shooting ranges in Pittsburgh?
Where can I go in the city (or immediate surrounding suburbs such as Mt. Lebanon or Brentwood) to practice shooting handguns, rifles and shotguns? I don't have a car so I'd be taking public transportation. I am interested in short and long range shooting. It must be close since 1) I must rely on public transportation 2) I don't want to be traveling more than say 1 hour each way. I live in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
Thanks!

Here's a list of local clubs, I don't know of any that can be reached by bus though.

save money, get a car, join PMSC. It is probably the best range in the area.

Re: shooting ranges in Pittsburgh?
pmsc is probably as close to "in city" as you can get.
It would be difficult to find the room to shoot rifles and shotguns in a city. As it is pmsc is surrounded by populated areas and there is always a concern with rounds leaving the grounds and ending up in one of these.
You may be able to find some indoor pistol ranges within some city limits.Koli's back from Ambler.

Re: shooting ranges in Pittsburgh?
Even if you could get to the general vacinity of any club by public trans, you would probably have a pretty good hike to the actual clubhouse or individual shooting ranges.
I suppose cost is a factor or you could get there by cab.
I travel heavy when going to the range so public transp would be difficult.
Pitcairin/ Monroeville is a great club with minimal range restrictions.
McDonald Sportsman's is another good club with 600 yd rifle IIRC.
Dormont / Mt. Lebanon has numerous range restrictions ( not sure about mag limits ) absolutely "NO HOLSTER PLAY" or shooting steel so handgun presentations are out.
Coraopolis Sportsmans club has indoor pistol and 100 yd rifle. I don't believe this club is too restrictive.
Clairton seems to have a pretty good club but now we start getting into mag limits. I'm pretty sure no one has ever schooled them that it only takes one round to have a ND.
I haven't looked at maps but the last 2 ranges may be accessible by bus and a bit of a hike.
I'm not sure about any PAT restrictions on carrying range stuff in busses.
Get a car or bike OR find a friend with like interests to take you.

Re: shooting ranges in Pittsburgh?
well, the north side, hazelwood, the hill, and wilkinsburg all have large outdoor 24 hour shooting facilities
A real range or club takes up a lot of space, not sure how you could fit that IN the city. Anthony Arms has an indoor range (pistol only, a few lanes, no presentations, costs a lot, cant shoot and move or do anything more than just stand there and put holes in one piece of paper at a time) and they may be bus accessable for you over in West Mifflin.
Really, if your into shooting in any respect PMSC is THE club to belong to if you live in the city. Takes me 20-25 minutes from the east end.
without transportation your options are very limited.
