First Ar-15, need experienced opinions
I've decided to buy an AR-15, I was thinking about DTI's Standard Rifle
http://www.del-ton.com/ProductDetail...Show=TechSpecs
It's $750 stock, I was going to get the barrel chrome lined as well as the bolt and bolt carrier and that comes to $850 pre tax, shipping, and transfer. I originally was staying away from the AR rifles mainly because of cost and other reasons. I'm a CJ major at Marywood University that's why cost is important and if I'm going into Law Enforcement I might as well get acquainted with that type of rifle. I don't want to build one because it's my first AR and experiencing the humiliating feeling of having an "adult" have to buy me a lower; being that I'm 19.
I'm selling my Mossberg 500 and my SKS to help me pay for it, So I'll only need about $300-$400 in the end, ammo included.
I wanted to mount a light, vertical grip, and bayonet on the rifle, can I do that with this rifle? If so tell me what I need besides the mentioned itemsLast edited by Yachera; August 12th, 2010 at 11:20 AM.

Is your question regarding the ability to mount those items on the rifle? Or are you looking for opinions on what accessories to get?

Del-ton's are OK rifles.. Here's some reviews by people on here..

I can't view the exact rifle you linked to because I'm at work, but most times, you will need some sort of rail system to attach any accessories. You can get single rails that mount onto the stock handguard, or you can replace the stock guards with a quadrail. However, a good quadrail can run you upwards of $200. You can keep the "accessorizing" as simple, or as intense as you wish. It's all personal preference. If you plan on adding quite a few different things though, I would recommend that you get a quadrail on. This will allow you to mount on four planes, and wont crowd up a single rail. Plus, in my opinion, it has a better look when there's more than 2 accessories on a rifle.
My personal AR has a quadrail, with a verticle grip, flashlight, and current sling mount. Here's my simple version as of right now (minus the flashlight which I forgot to mount for the pic) http://forum.pafoa.org/gun-pictures-...r-project.html
As far as the bayonet lug, I'm not sure if the one you are looking at has one or not... but if you're planning on mounting a bayonet to it, it will be hard to find a bayonet that fits properly. Here's some info on it: http://forum.pafoa.org/general-2/455...4-carbine.html
Like I said, you can keep it as simple as you want. I, personally, like to keep things clean, yet useful. But that's just me. The next Joe may want 3 lasers, a flashlight, 37mm flare launcher, and a grip on it.Last edited by NikeBauer21; August 12th, 2010 at 11:47 AM.

Well, then disregard half of what I said in my last post, since much of that pertained to more of the carbine.
You can pick up the single rails for around $20. You just need to compress the spring, pop the guards out, screw the rail on, and drop the guards back in. Singles are about the easiest way to add accessories quick!III%

I'm gonna have to say your best bet right now is gonna be to read more, then go back a couple pages and read some more. Then try using the search function and read some more. If you are going into LE then I would say your time and money would be better served by buying a Glock and taking a pistol course or two cause trust me, unless you make SWAT as a rookie your actual time behind a rifle is going to be minimal.

Go to a gun show, you can pick one up for around $120, then with a few punches and a mallot, and a wrench for the tube nuts, you can have it built in about an hour. Its too easy. The only problem you may run into is buying a striped reciever as some people are transfering them as pistols (incorrectly).. fwiw you can get a stag arms out of the box for around that price.
