.30-30 to .25-35 conversion
My cousin in KY has a 11 year old granddaughter that is recoil sensitive, he is thinking of changing an Win m-94 from .30-30 to .25-35 for her to use.
I believe all that would be necessary is to replace the barrel if he could find a .25-35 barrel, am I correct and where would be a good place to look for such a barrel?.

Re: .30-30 to .25-35 conversion
im not sure. im not framiliar w/ the 25-35 cartridge, but, first, the case heads would have to be the same size for the bolt to work.
also, i havent heard of win offering this as a factory chambering, if they did, a simple bbl change would be easy, if not, and no one makes a conversion bbl for it, you would have to get a blank, chamber it, thread it to the action, and profile the bbl, not an easy conversion. and of course, all of this is moot if the case head is diffrent.

Re: .30-30 to .25-35 conversion
The Model 94 was in fact offered in a .25-35 chambering.
Don't know how many but a good friend once owned a .25-35 Winchester Model 94 Saddle Ring Carbine.
Very nice piece.

http://www.e-gunparts.com/model.asp?idDept=277
but FWIW, i went through all of them and there wa no mention of a .25-35.

You'd have to rebarrel.
Otherwise, it would just be cheapr to get some reduced recoil loads/decent recoil pad.....and/or a brake.....although on a 30-30 a brake isn't going to be as effective as on a larger gun (but would still help and would be cheaper than a barrel).
I taught Chuck Norris to bump-fire.

Re: .30-30 to .25-35 conversion
I have a friend that owns an old winchester 94 in 25-35. He inherited it from his grandpa.
Save your bucks if your looking for reduced recoil. It ain't gonna happen. It kicks every bit as hard as my 30-30 did, but shot flatter.
Best bet is to start reloading your own 30-30 ammo. Maybe you can lighten the recoil that way, or, add on a nice recoil pad.
Best of luck

Re: .30-30 to .25-35 conversion
A simpler and more cost effective means to lower recoil might be to buy the girl a used lever gun in .357 and shot cowboy .38s in it. Used this shouldn't be too expensive. Then she could move to .357s and then on to the 30-30 when she is ready, sell tghe .357 and the cost is minimal (although selling a Marlin 94 in .357 is not going to be easy!!).
