Default OH NO look at my barrel...

To make a long story short, i received my kimber in this condition. It has some rust on the outside of barrel. I cleaned it with gun scrubber and some came off but it looks ugly. I went to the range and it shot fine like always, but i dont like knowing my barrel is all messed up like that. Do you recommend a new barrel (if i can find it) or is there any way of really cleaning it/removing the rust marks? Here is what im talking about:

The inside is clean as a whistle...right?

Looks cosmetic. If it isn't interfering with operation (sticking in the barrel bushing, etc) it's not a big deal. If it really bothers you, try 0000 steel wool & polish it off.

What's interesting is that it's on the outside, usually it forms on the inside. If this were mine, I'd search high & low inside that same gun for additional hidden rust.

You realize right that the barrel slides through a bushing and wear on any type if finish is to be expected? That and the outer chamber area slides across the slide's lockup recess lugs.

That kind of wear on a blued(or chromed, or stainless, or unprotected carbon steel) barrel of the Browning type cam link action is gonna happen. Blued or carbon steel will then be susceptible to rust once the bluing protection is worn off.

Well yes, i let my brother hold on to it for about a month or two and when i got it back, it looked like this. Im just amazed at how fast this happened. Its only on the outer barrel and does not affect its performance in any way, as i just put a bunch of rounds thru it.

Yea, its only on the outer barrel, i inspected the gun in and out taking it all apart (as much as i know), and couldnt find anything. Ill try your suggestion. thanks

the inside of the barrel looks fine, and you said it operates great, so I would keep it oiled up and let it go.

I was using Break Free CLP, and now have tried that free weapon shield. But its weird because i made sure to clean it and lube it up BEFORE i had it "stored" with my brother. hmmm

Weapon Shield will stick better than Break Free. Break Frre may be used by the military, but is vastly overrated.

Kimber's are notoriously tight. Lube get's pushed aside or evaporates. Water also evaporates easier from the bore than from inside a gun. Use the OOOO steel wool as mentioned. This should have no issue with function or reliability. I've had worse on my guns after RO'ing in the rain all day. You sure don't need a new barrel.
