My first lever action
Today I spent another hour or a little more at my favorite gun store. This is how long it takes me to buy a gun since my background check always requires to bring utility bills and the operator to call back (not being a US citizen has it's pros and cons).
Anyhow, the waiting was well worth it. I bought a used Marlin 39A with a 24'' micro grooved barrel. Oh boy does this thing feel good. I didn't have the time to shoot it right away, but I have over 4,000 rounds of .22 LR sitting here to warm it up. Expect me to hog a lane at CP no later than Monday.
JanSo long and thanks for all the fish.

Re: My first lever action
Should be a nice gun! I'm looking for a lever action in .357 or .44 magnum for a woods gun.
Also I would like to demand pictures before someone else does.

Re: My first lever action
FNG19 helped to make taking the first shots with it another pleasant day for my stepson and me at Classic Pistol. This was an all rifles day and I can report that I am very happy with yesterday's purchase.
Pictures attached.

Re: My first lever action
I always liked how lever actions looked! Could have something to do with all the cowboy movies I watched with my dad when I was a kid... Makes me want to get my own lever action and a single action army clone...
You're costing me money!
How do you like those leaf sights? I always hear a replacement peep sight helps with the picture, though I haven't used a leaf sight since I was about 14.

Re: My first lever action
Always keep in mind, it's only money.
I personally like them and they seem to work for me. My stepson hates them and was really happy that FNG19 brought his scoped bolt action .22 lr. Since I don't intend to change anything on my Marlin, I think my stepson must get his own rifle where he can put a scope or whatever he wants.

Re: My first lever action
Although the part about "not changing anything" wasn't entirely accurate, he got a Savage Mark II FV on Monday and we will be at the range tomorrow to sight in the scope.
I'm not going to put a scope onto it, but maybe I'll exchange the rear sight with an aperture style.

Re: My first lever action
I actually shot my new AK-47 the other day for the first time, and I have to say--leaf sights suck! I'm remembering why I don't shoot my SKS much now... It takes much longer to get back on the front sight. I think you might like an aperture if you were having the same issue, definitely worth looking into.

Re: My first lever action
Nice. Everyone should own at least one lever gun. (sez the guy who only recently discovered "lever-love")
About 2 years ago I was looking to pick up a .22 lever gun, but ended up with a well-used Marlin .357 mag from a forum member who knew I was looking. It costs a lot more to shoot, but it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up. Still want a .22 though...I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
