Carbine buffer vs A2 buffer
I'm switching the stock on my 16" AR from a mil spec collapsible to a fixed standard A2 stock. I used the spring and buffer that came with the new fixed A2 stock. A friend of mine says because of the barrel length (16"), I should use the spring and buffer from the collapsible stock. Visually checking I see no difference in the springs or buffer. Is there a difference?

Re: Carbine buffer vs A2 buffer
under no circumstances should you ever use a collapsing stock buffer and spring in an A2 unit without a spacer.
the spring and buffer for a collapsible stock, and those for a fixed A2 stock have significant weight and length differences.
if you use a collapsing stock buffer and spring in a A2 fixed length stock, you will seriously damage your lower receiver ring when the gas key impacts the ring on firing.
you should see a difference in the springs and buffers, as below.
