July 02, 2010 More movies, slightly less shopping are in store for the Stroud Mall.
Current movie provider AMC Loews will leave its seven-screen operation, clearing the way for international movie provider Cinemark to sign a deal with the mall.
Cinemark plans a 12-screen multiplex with stadium seating at the AMC theater near Sears, eliminating the theater near J.C. Penney.
It will require some reconfiguration inside the mall.
Mall representatives submitted proposed redevelopment plans to Stroud Township on Wednesday.
The outer footprint of Stroud Mall will stay the same. Inside, the theater near J.C. Penney will be converted to retail space.
The other theater, across from Bath & Body Works, will be expanded to a 34,866-square-foot multiplex. The theater expansion will take over spaces now occupied by the current theater, American Eagle, Lids, the former Dollar Tree and mall offices. The theater will end next to Sears.
Some stores will be relocated, although which ones is still unclear. A mall representative told the Stroud Township planning commission that the mall is still negotiating with affected stores.
Mall offices will relocate next to Bon Ton in the space now used by K&K Kollectibles.
In addition to shrinking retail space, the new theater will have more screens but 131 fewer seats. The seating will drop from 1,699 to 1,568 because stadium seating takes more space than traditional ramp seating. The main viewing auditorium will hold 300 moviegoers. The other 11 theaters will have between 91 and 150 seats.
If the redevelopment approval process goes swiftly, the mall could start moving its office in September. Work on the changes will stop for the holiday shopping season and begin again after the first of the year. The redevelopment should be completed in 2011.

This is amazing! I don't know why a movie theater hasn't opened on 611 somewhere. Seriously, 90% of monroe county movie-goers leave the county just to see a movie. The current stroud mall theaters(amc-loews) are disgusting. The seats haven't been replaced since they opened, you can read brail with your feet there is so much gum stuck to the floors. Not to mention the seat cushions and arm rests. I don't mind that, to be honest, even though it's gross, but the amount of dip shit kids who went in there and chatted, laughed (non-movie related), and generally acted obnoxiously ruined the place for me. Hopefully the new theater gets SERIOUS about keeping this bullshit to a minimum, because everyone I know is getting tired of having to drive into another county just to see a movie.

It will be good to get a new theater in there, but I still won't go. The scum bag dip shits have ruined every movie I've ever gone to there and nobody cares at all.
Plus for me its just as quick (and much less traffic dependent) for me to run down 33 to 248 and they actually enforce rules there and I have seen them remove people who were being assholes
if they put a theater in right by where Lowes is it would do an insane amount of businessThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

It would be really nice to have a new theater in the mall. Went to the current one once and it was nasty, would never go back.

They're still just ticky tacky multiplex crap theaters.
The last truly quality real movie theaters around with real seats decent prices and really clean is the Boyd in Bethlehem. Once you go there you will be spoiled forever.
Then there are all the little pubs near by too.

It would be nice to have a new place to watch a movie in the county. I've been going to Casino's recently and even though it is tiny its better than going to the Mall.
