new project ar15 w/ questions
I recently took on a project of building an ar15 Im pleased that its almost finished but not so happy with the upper.
Its a preban 16 inch A2 upper. Is there any real benifit of having a fixed carry handle and is a Bushmaster preban chrome lined a2 upper any good I think i would have rather had a flat top with detach carry handle
third thing I need a bolt assembly any ideas on were i can get a cheap one as in inexspensive to finish this rifle
anyone ever use a MGW 90 round drum any good I got one its in great condition got on a trade thinking of selling i'll attach pics let me know if its any goodHave you called, faxed, or emailed your reps today!!!

For an inexpensive bolt go with BCM. You can find cheaper bolt groups out there, but I wouldn't want them in my rifle. BCM is not only some of the best stuff currently being made, it's also priced very competetivly.

Re: new project ar15 w/ questions
i agree about the BCM, in fact, i ordered one on Monday and it should be here today or tomorrow. As for the upper, if i was starting new, i would go with the detachable, but if you got the fixed cheap, keep it. you can always put a scope on it if you need to or sell the completed rifle to get the one you want.

Re: new project ar15 w/ questions
Definitely go with the BCM bolt. I am emailing away trying to get an answer, but somewhere along the lines of 30% of bolts fail prematurely if they are not made per the TDP, ie, if you get a cheap bolt, it is more likely to break. At only slightly more than a cheap bolt anyway, the BCM bolt is what I would call a bargain.
Also, if you are concerned with the upper, it can be swapped out for $90 for a new flat top upper, but you will need to replace the rear sight, a Daniel Defense fixed rear runs around $60, to $150 give or take based on rear sight selection will be the price.Jeff Cooper was a huge supporter of gun games, when he was winning them at least...
