Default Training Class for the women????

We see questions on here all the time about handguns for women. I was thinking that we should try and get ourselves a class set up just for us and the betterhalves, or femal friends we have, or female PAFOA members that may be interested.

I was initially thinking that it should be just for the women. But I think a lot of the women would be more comfortable with the other half there. And besides, most of us probably have never taken any kind of formal training ourselves.

So, if you would be up for attending a PAFOA Couples / Intro to handguns / Women Intro / ETC..... Respond to this thread. Maybe we can get Tony to set us up a Class next spring. That way we all winter to save up the money for both of us to attend. Our wives may be more receptive if they know this class will have other women in it that are new to shooting.

    Anyone interested???

I'm down, maybe I'll have my ducks in a row by spring and can actually manage to get out of the house without my kid attached to my hip By spring my mom will be living up here too so she might be interested as well, she has her CCW in TX but could always use a little refresher.

John Farnam already has a course like this; I think his wife teaches it. It's in PA next year:

WoW, $500 for a class is pretty steep.

I was thinking more on the grounds of a single day intro to handguns kind of class. Just a good class to get them introduced to handguns correctly. Because, as great as you think you are. Your probably not the best person to teach your betterhalf how to shoot. Instructors at these classes have a bit more patients than most of us.

No, $500 for a 2+ day class is within industry normal.

I'll schedule a one day handgun class for pafoa couples if there is enough interest. The maximum we can accommodate is 12 (six couples).

That is why the question was put out there. Want imput on which class would be prefered.

My betterhalf would be more comfortable with me there. Bit shy at first.

But I wanted to see what the rest of you thought. I am signing my betterhalf up for a class this spring. Just thought it might be neat to do one for PAFOA members if we can get enough interest.

When I have taken classes with couples, the instructor generally seperates the couples, which in my opinion is a good idea. It removes the pressure from the less experienced and lessens the distraction of checking how your partner is doing.

Those of you who choose a handgun for your partner should make sure the gun fits the partner's hand and that partner is capable of working the action (pulling the slide back to check the chamber--able to reach the mag release without changing grip---loading mags). You should also make sure your partner can shoot the pistol and manage the recoil.

You may want to clarify with Tony as far as minimal caliber size, have an open topped holster which won't require 2 hands to reholster, have a belt mounted mag holder.

When everything is set up right, it minimizes time spent with equipment issues and maximizes training time.

It will also make the attendees aware of what doesn't work with their equipment selection.

Just a few hints. You have until spring to work out the details.

If/When this happens, add another couple to the list.
