McDonald v. Chicago: Impact on carry at Universities/Colleges
I was wondering what the thoughts are about this decision and how it may or may not impact the current policies of prohibiting carry on the grounds of public colleges and universities that are owned or funded by public money.

Re: McDonald v. Chicago: Impact on carry at Universities/Colleges
in and of itself, this case has absolutely no impact on that issue.
if a case regarding that issue comes before the courts, mcdonald and/or heller will probably be cited...but, imho, likely the citation will be "heller says guns can still be banned from sensitive areas and colleges are sensitive areas, so the ban can stand".F*S=k

What LRT said, although hopefully, if a case does come in the future, we'll have a stronger court when it comes to this issue. With the current balance of SCOTUS I don't see those bans being lifted by federal litigation.

Re: McDonald v. Chicago: Impact on carry at Universities/Colleges
I'm OK with the "sensitive areas" thing, but it only makes sense if they enforce that 100%, as they do in a court house for example.
It's ridiculous to say "no guns allowed in schools" and then let anyone stroll in without being searched. I think there should be a law, if a non-privately owned building has a gun ban, then they must perform searches to enforce it. I think that might make a lot of them just get rid of the ban.Tommy610, NRA Member, Romans 12:18

A better question might be how it affects state run colleges that prohibit firearms in dormitories (aka: student homes).

Re: McDonald v. Chicago: Impact on carry at Universities/Colleges
The way to get at the issue is that university bans disarm students while they're off campus because it's often highly impractical if not impossible for them to go about the rest of their day armed if they can't be armed at the middle or end of the day.

Re: McDonald v. Chicago: Impact on carry at Universities/Colleges
This is the argument I have about our corporate policy that prohibits firearms even in locked cars in the parking lot. This policy disarms me to and from work or other locations that I need or want to go before or after work without first traveling home.
I like the "dorm = home" comment above. Since one's home is not limited to real estate that is personally owned, that must include rented space such as a dorm or apartment.NRA Life Member. OC is comfy!
