Problem with my SA 1911 Mil-Spec
Took my Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec out tonight and shot about 40-50 rounds and everything seemed fine. I brought it in and started cleaning and I noticed that I couldn't disengage the safety no matter how hard I pushed on it.
Taking a closer look, I see that the little plunger is on top of the safety, right below the part that sticks out to push down with your thumb. Here's some pics:
In the first pic you can see how it seems to overextend over top of the safety and there appears to be a gap from the bottom of the plunger housing and the frame.

In pic 2, you can see it looks like the welding (or whatever it is that keeps the plunger housing attached to the frame) came loose.

Pic 3 just seems to show a better pic of the overlap of the plunger on the safety.

I tested my theory about the housing coming away from the frame by putting pressure down on the plunger housing while activating and de-activating the safety and it worked perfectly so it does appear that the housing has come loose from the frame somehow.
Is this something a gunsmith could fix or would I need to send this back to Springfield?
edit: had to put the pics on another host.Last edited by WWGunslinger; June 26th, 2010 at 09:37 PM.

A smith could fix it or just send her back to Springer....

Re: Problem with my SA 1911 Mil-Spec
Had my gunsmith uncle look at it today and he says it looks like the staking of the plunger housing came loose. He can fix it, but he doesn't have the tool to do it, so he is going to order it and fix it for me.
