Re: NRA 2011 Annual Meeting
On the otehr side... the people at the convention center are pretty good people. Ive dealt with them a good deal in the last year with Tekkoshocon. Top notch and hard working. May have my beefs about the union, but even those folks were pretty nice to deal with.
In all we talked about, even when dealing with their security team, there was never once a question of weapons past prop and costume weapons and our policy on it. (most carrying them are under 21 or 18)

Went in 2004 and plan to be there in 2011. Might be interesting to try to meet up with some of the people on this board.

Re: NRA 2011 Annual Meeting
The article indicates that the Pittsburgh Convention center is owned jointly by the city and the county. That means it was NOT a matter of private property rights.
However, in those cities where the convention centers ARE owned privately all the NRA would have to do is to say something like this:
"We fully support your right to say whether guns will be carried on your property or not. However we hope you'll also understand that we'll be exercizing our right to take our convention of 80,000 people to one of the many other cities and convention centers that will not place that restriction on our members--unless of course you'd like to reconsider in order to get our business."
It's that simple.
When I and 80,000 other NRA members have to walk through a high crime area unarmed because the NRA chose to have their convention in a center that will not allow us to carry--that's NOT protecting our rights.
Regardless of how well the NRA does on many other issues.

Re: NRA 2011 Annual Meeting
I've never attended an NRA convention before, but the upcoming 2011 event in Pittsburgh looks tempting. Is this like a standard gun show? Will firearms, ammo, and accessories be for sale, or is this simply a show to promote upcoming trends and technology in the firearm industry?

Free, if you are a NRA member. http://www.nraam.org/index.html
I assumed you could buy items there, and was planning to, if there were "deals"
Question, can you see it all in one day? We are trying to decide whether to come down Saturday and Sunday, or just Sunday.
No interest in any "seminars", just guns and accessories.

Re: NRA 2011 Annual Meeting
You can definitely do it in one day--depending on how much time you want to spend at each booth! :-) Lots of accessories and peripherals for sale. Sometimes you can get some really great discounts since you're buying directly from the manufacturers and they bring stuff to sell there.
There are also inexpensive freebies like one frequently picks up at any convention or trade show and lots of free catalogs and brochures.
But, when it comes to guns themselves it's a place where the companies, virtually every gun manufacturer you can think of, bring samples of their guns to look at, hold and drool over. Then you have to go buy them at a dealer back home. :-)
