If you want something cheap and easy, check out the Limbsaver recoil pad.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Re: New Mossy 500 - OUCH!
I agree . . . If you have a proper shotgun stance then you won't have any problems with the 12 gauge. Personally, I weigh 150 pounds so I'm not a big guy at all but I handle the 12 gauge recoil very well because I bury the stock in my shoulder and I lean into the shot. I shot about 50 low brass target shells and some slugs last weekend and I didn't have any problems. What I try to make people realize when they fire my shotguns is that you're really only going to make it worse by being afraid of the recoil.
The ATI stock is crap by the way. Replace it with a Blackhawk Spec Ops stock if you want something that will reduce the recoil.

Re: New Mossy 500 - OUCH!
Some folks love the kick of 12g, others don't... Personally, a good HD-style pump shotgun feels like heaven to me. I can shoot one all day (and I have) and not be sore in the slightest... 'hunting' guns like my Stoeger double barrel, however, kick the shit out of me and make me sore for a week...
Perhaps you should try lighter loads and get comfortable with those while working your way up to 00 Buck? This is what I've been doing with the above mentioned double barrel... As I get more comfortable with that platform I will work my way up to 00 Buck, slugs ect...Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

Re: New Mossy 500 - OUCH!
Yep, that stuff will help. However, (and FWIW), be careful of the shorter 2" shells that some folks try to use to lower the recoil. I had a shop tell me they're great, no problems, etc., but my experience was that they tend to flip around as they're getting loaded into the chamber, especially if you're cycling rapidly.
This happened with a 3" chamber, don't know if it happens w/ 2.75" chambers also. YMMV
