Transporting a Weapon Through Non-Reciprocity States?
I have to spend a LONG time in Ohio on my way to Kentucky. What is the proper way to store my firearm while in a non-reciprocity state? Locked in the trunk with the ammo seperate until I get to a non-gay state? I would assume that's the best way to go. Any opinions? Would love to hear them.

Re: Transporting a Weapon Through Non-Reciprocity States?
Transport laws vary from state to state. Below is from an email I received from the Ohio AG's office.
No person shall knowingly transport or have a firearm in a motor vehicle, unless it is unloaded and carried in one of the following ways:
· In a closed package, box or case;
· In a compartment that can be reached only by leaving the vehicle;
· In plain sight and secured in a rack or holder made for the purpose;
· In plain sight with the action open or the weapon stripped, or if the firearm is of a type on which the action will not stay open or which cannot be easily stripped, in plain sight.
Ohio law states that you may not transport a loaded, concealed handgun in a vehicle unless you possess either an Ohio-issued CCW permit or one that is issued by a reciprocity state.
Should you wish to obtain further information on Ohio's Concealed Carry Laws you can visit our website at www.ag.state.oh.us .

Ohio has another strange law that you need to be aware of. If you have a loaded magazine or speedloader anywhere in the vehicle, the gun is considered "loaded."
Even with a permit there are some strange restrictions on how you can carry, in and out of a vehicle. And many restrictions on where.
www.handgunlaw.us is a great state-by-state resource.

By spending a long time in ohio do you mean driving time? I don't believe you can stop in Ohio other than for gas or an emergency.

I apologize for not being clear. I will only be passing through, stopping only for gas and/or bathroom breaks.
