Default Thinking about some class 3

So in theory lets say I could afford to go the suppressed .22 route. I'm thinking about using my Ruger 10/22 as a base platform. I'd like to put some sort of reflex sight on the gun, and be able to say hit a squirrel sized target (not a squirrel that's not legal ) at 50 yds or so. I'm taking all sorts of suggestions on

#1 Internally suppressed barrel vs threaded

#1a if threaded barrel, what make of can (gemtech outback II looks highly recommended)

#1b if internally suppressed barrel, what kind?

    #2 sight system

#3 anything else ya'll want to preach to me on

Ill wait on JayBell's post because he is the eminence on the Class III subject.

Other than that, I'll say threaded barrel, so you could potentially use it on different weapons.

#1 Internally suppressed barrel vs threaded

an integral suppressed barrel has advantages and disadvantages.
its main advantage is ammo selection, you can use regular high vel ammo with it, since its internally ported, it reduces the velocity to subsonic.

Its has more disadvantages tho...you are stuck with it on one gun, you cant use low vel accuracy ammo in general, and its harder to clean.
For me, its a one trick gun issue, I dont like integrals for that very reason

Manual operated weapons are definitely quieter with the same can and ammo, semis get some noise from the action and chamber pop on ejection.
I have many times heard weapons that have a noisier action than the actual gunshot.

#1a if threaded barrel, what make of can (gemtech outback II looks highly recommended)

Outback, or AAC pilot, or any decent maker muzzle can is best, Tac Innovations TQAC65, etc. I have experience with the Outback and the Pilot, you wont be disappointed by either, and the outback II by Gemtech has superior service by Gemtech if any problems.

#1b if internally suppressed barrel, what kind?

I prefer a muzzle can for adaptability.

    #2 sight system

Since its a 22, you want a 1moa Dot of some sort (or a real telescopic sight), the smaller the dot the more precise your adjustments can be. Standard red dot, even the cheapies by Simmons and Bushnell, and such work fine. I use a $30 BSA on most applications in 22lr.
I'm not a fan of the reflex style reddots on 22s, i use regular magnified scopes, or full tube red dot sights, the reflex are easier to damage, and easier to dirty up, and harder to see in bright conditions.

#3 anything else ya'll want to preach to me on

get a muzzle can, so you can move it around, and get the best you can afford from a company with good customer service (Gemtech and Tactical Innovations)
At a certain level, all 22 cans pretty much sound alike, the Pilot and OutbackII sound the same with the same ammo on the same gun.

Make sure you have the barrel threaded by someone reputable that KNOWS how to thread barrels for suppressor use, threading must be done concentric to the bore, and the shoulder needs to be perfectly square to make sure the can stays aligned to prevent baffle strikes.

save up cash for every OTHER gun you'll want to put it on, I have a Stainless steel full auto capable Bowers CAC-22, it is a TINY bit less efficient than an aluminum non-full auto capable can as the baffle stack is optimized for strength in FA, not maxmum suppression, but its still mousefart quiet.

I use the same can on anything I have that gets it fits:
Ruger 77/22 bolt action with telescopic sight
    Beretta 21a pistol
    Ruger MKII Pistol(s)
    Beretta 87 22 pistol
    TEC 22
    22 Makarov
    Ruger 10/22(s)
    M16 with 22 kit
    AR15 SBR with 22 kit
    Norinco ATD 22 rifle
    CZ 75 Kadet Pistol

obviously a muzzle can is more adaptable

Ok so the going idea here is to get a threaded barrel with an outback II. I was looking around a bit last night for a threaded barrel online

    http://www.tacticalinc.com/threaded-...ae4333f03619ef

    or

    http://www.tacticalinc.com/threaded-...rel-p-558.html

I like the Sniper Sub Sonic rounds from Agulia, but not sure if I want/need to take the plunge and get a different twist rate for them. Would the slower twist rate stabilize other ammo too?

the standard twist for a 22lr is 1 in 16" to 1 in 18" and is designed for 30 to 40gr ammo, the twist on the barrels made specifically for the SSS is much faster, like 1 in 9 or so if i remember.

skip it, the barrel is set up for the chamber and twist specifically for the SSS, you wont be pleased with the accuracy or performance of other ammo from that barrel.

you can buy other subsonic ammo for use in the standard barrel fro the gun, most accuracy ammo is subsonic from a normal length barrel.

just get the host weapons factory barrel threaded, and drop the scope on, and be done with it.

I looked at a "complete package" back at my local shop this afternoon

    Ruger 10/22
    Tacital Inovations fluted barrel
    AAC Pilot
    BSA reflex sight
black stock with rubber "half circle" grips

    about 1,200

I personally don't think I'll need the fluted barrel, or the tacticool stock. Both the AAC Pilot and Gemtec outback II came recommended by my guys. They also said to go with the standard twist barrel, not the faster one just for the SSS.

Thanks for the link Jaybell, but for what it would cost to ship my barrel out there, have the work done and ship back it may just be cheaper to get a second barrel from that site i linked to above.

So will I please the NFA gods if I go

2nd barrel (tactial innovations 1-16" twist, non fluted)

I suggest a tac 65 (or any of Craigs new cans) over the Outback just because you can disassemble them. The internals of the outbackII and the tac65 are allmost an exact copy.

I thread all my own barrels so I can't suggest someone, however any reputable gunsmith should have no problem threading a barrel for you.

    Mtdew,

as far as the reputable gunsmith, I'm not sure of any in my area so without shipping my barrel out to somebody (which will start to get cost prohibative).
How important is a can that can be disassemble? Just to keep it clean right?
