    Default WASR Disassembly

used the search cant find a link anywhere as im sure there is somewhere, looking to take the wasr fore end apart and sand and stain the wood, or is it easier to do it with the wood on? made by century arms, also is there a way to finish the metal? it has some scratches here and there but not a huge deal

Remove the bolt carrier and cleaning rod.
Flip the lever on the right side up & forward.
Lift up the top handguard & metal tube.
Now you can see another lever, front/right under the upper handguard. Flip that forward 180 degrees.
Slide the front metal band forward a little.
    Pull off the lower handguard.

use 0000 or 000 steel wool on the wood five minutes of rubbing it is smooth as glass.. and leaves a nice finish (it is not like it is sanded just super smooth) i just did this to my Draco when i got it in the group buy 2 months ago the front wood was rough to the touch popped off the hand guards and took the steel wool to it.. came out beautiful blonde wood

I am going to have to do the same thing my WASR as well....

    refinish that is

If you have a bbq grille you are good to go.

Get some high temp engine paint from pep boys or advance auto parts.

    detail strip the rifle.

    Get some METAL coat hangers.

Use some acetone to clean off all the parts you plan to refinish. Use rubber gloves or surgical gloves to avoid getting fingerprints on the newly cleaned rifle. They will show up when you paint it btw...

Hang the main parts of the rifle from the coat hangers and spray the rifle down with the high temp enging paint.

when the paint tacks up put the rifle in the bbq grille, just use an old oven rack and some more METAL hangers to support the rifle.

insert STRIPPED rifle and parts into grille.

    have a smoke or two.....

in bout half hour you are done

let the parts sit somewhere dirt and dust free for a day or two. now reassemble and lubricate as needed.

DO NOT USE YOUR HOME OVEN FOR THIS!!

unless you either like that smell in your food or you want your wife/gf/ signficant other to KILL you on the spot.........

again don't ask me how I know about that last part either......
    gotta love her ;)

What exactly are you smoking?? Ya your stuff would be pretty baked by then hahah.. DEFINITLY DONT DO THIS...!! Hightemp engine paint is not meant top be baked on.. on the other hand.. If you want a true finish... Use GunKote... Works excellent... you can get it here: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1...RE__GUN_FINISH

Just follow the directions and you will have a professional looking finish Or I can powder coat it high-gloss gold for you... no joke
