Which .308/7.62 semi auto rifle?
I'm in the market for a semi auto, magazine fed rifle in .308/7.62
It needs to be able to easily accept a scope (1-4x) for some matches and either come with or accept iron sights for others. The rifle must also be handy enough to run and gun with (I'll be using it for 3 gun heavy metal/heavy metal optic).
So far, I'm considering the following:
1. LaRue Tactical OBR, either 16" or 18"
www.larueosr.com
2. Springfield Armory M1A M21 Tactical
http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=20
3. Noveske N6 7.62
http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin...since=&status=
4. DPMS Panther 7.62

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

This is just me man.. I would go with the Springfield armory.. yes I know it lacks a collapsible stock and pistolgrip and what not but also I am not a fan of anything in 308 with under a 20inch barrel.. it kinda defeats the purpose of having that powerful of a cartridge.
Then you figure in the Weight of the rifle loaded is damn near 12 pounds.. (if using for SHTF situation) so anything really in the 308 class is going to be heavy... regardless of make.
The springfield armory is basically a M14 which we all KNOW is proven itself in combat and is still used today.
Then it comes down to price.. the loaded M1A about 1700 everything else.. 3000 or more..

I have a DPMS LR-308 Classic with a CAA SRS Sniper Stock and the DPMS quad rail. I have a Falcon Menace 5.5-25x56 on top. It is a great gun.
I would also check out ArmaLite, my friend has one. It is also a great gun.

Have you looked into the LWRC REPR? not because it's a piston, but more because a boatload of R&D went into it. What is your budget? There are some better choices over the springfield M1As out there(other M1 rifles, built to mil spec). Also, where are the heavy metal/heavy metal optic matches being held at? I'd totally run that class.

Re: Which .308/7.62 semi auto rifle?
Those classes sound like a blast !! I own a FAL L1A1...before people go CRAZY lol, if your just looking for semi auto .308 rifle then FALs are nice, an AR-10, CETME, PTR91, G3, also not a huge popular version is the Saiga in .308 w/ 21" barrel, granted you may want to move the rear sight back with a dog-leg rear sight or a Tech-sight IMO. I had one of these and it was a good shooter, reliable of course.
If your looking for something shooting 50-300 yards then a FAL or Saiga IMO would be sufficent, not too much money ranging from $700 to 1,200 for a FAL depending on manufacturer and extras of course. A Saiga can be had for as low as about $300...for a Non-modified one, which in your case I would suggest because minimal you would need to do is install a G2 FCG and move the rear sight back further, IMO anyway. You wouldn't even need to do that, just to increase your accuracy and upgrade your trigger would be a big + to do.
An AR-10 from what others have told me on here are really nice also, more money to buy one but wouldn't need work as a FAL or Saiga would, especially to shoot longer ranges.
Not too knowledgeable about the G3, CEMTE and PTR91 as they are close in comparison I don't know the major/minor diffrences between the 3. I have no experience with them either....I do know you can use the G3 collapsable stock on the PTR91 and CETME as well IIRC, which is really sweet IMO. I do not know how reliable/accurate they are though.
Keep in mind these are just .308 semi-autos....not all are LR percision rifles. When ALL else fails...the AK won't !! Emotions...??? emotions are for people who CARE !!!

I think I'd go with an Armalite, AR-10 Super SASS model. Thats probably not the most cost effective but its probably the simplest solution.
