    Talking Name Change on LTCF

    Hi everyone!

So my google-fu must be failing me, but I can't find the answer. I have an LTCF in the state of PA issued by Allegheny County. I've got a while before it will be time to renew, and my name changed (that whole married thing).

I've got pretty much everything else updated except that. Do I need to update it? Should I just call up the sheriff's office? I'm sure some of the women here or husbands with carrying wives have come across this in the past so I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread for it. :-)

Thanks! You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming....

Different sheriffs have different policies on this. Call yours and ask would be the best idea

Same as address change. There is no legal requirement or even legal provision for a name or address change. You should call the Sheriff and inform them. Your current LTCF is valid until expired or revoked. Niether marriage or moving are an enumerated reason for revocation so if he does issue another then you will have two equally valid licenses.

He may have a super top secret bureaucratic paperwork way to get you a card with a new name but the same number, although I'm not sure how he would go about it. He may advise you to reapply under your new name, which your are not obligated to do, and in which case both licenses would again be equally valid.

In all likelihood the sheriff will tell you to simply inform any officers examining it that you got married, if it should ever come up.

You can apply for another LTCF any time you move to a new county and have multiple valid LTCFs. I have 2.

    Congratulations.

No need to change it right now. But when you renew be sure to bring your papers detailing the legal name change.

As with an address change , ya simply inform the Sherriffs office , they change info in their computer files , and when ya renew , they'll use your marriage name on the new license.
