Exclamation Discharge Laws, who they hurt and how they hurt

I have seen discharge laws hinder the development of shooting ranges, indoor ranges, archery teams, and basically outlaw the future development of ranges in general.

If discharge laws are passed, how can you expect to continue to shoot your gun or bow to become skilled?

What limits can a twp. impose?

Isn't a discharge law another feel good law? A criminal doesn't care about discharging a gun and where or how they do it.

On the other hand, I can see it preventing people who think it's OK for a fence to be a backstop. I think a poorly worded discharge law is an issue.

But then again. Hmmmm... your point is understood.

Fence or no fence, now it would be gun owners are stupid.

I argue with people about archery shooting all the time.

"Bow hunting is an exceptionally safe activity. Data from the National Safety Council shows that during the year 2005 there were 38 bow relate injuries (nationally) out of 20.7 million total hunters in the U.S.A. Nearly all bow and arrow hunting injuries occur to the hunter and not innocent passersby. To put these injuries into perspective, there were 486,000 bicycle injuries, 418,000 football injuries, 175,000 soccer injuries, 25,000 cheerleading injuries and 6,000 billiard injuries during the same year. If you have the ability shooting in your back yard should be ok. Obviously you should be safe.

Discharge laws restrict this type of recreational shooting and hurt the individual shooting who may not belong to a club or range. They also end up effecting the range development, hunting (archery and gun), and the shooting sport in general.

First off, Discharge is not covered under Preemption. that being said, local ordinaces can be as strict as they want. hence the reason FOAC has put together the all encompassing discharge ordinance to to change the existing discharge laws that are more restrictive.
