Default Some Help with South Carolina Gun Laws

I will be leaving shortly for a 3 month stay in South Carolina. I will be living in an apartment. It will be leased in my name.

Can I legally bring my handgun and keep it in the apartment for personal protection?

Also, would I be able to transport it to a range to practice?

I have looked at several sites for SC law, but I can't quite find something addressing this type of situation.

    Thanks,

You can keep a gun in your place of stay down there. You can also transport a loaded gun in a closed glovebox or console too without a license, without having a specific destination. ...so, yes you can transport to a range.

    Thanks for quick reply.

That is what I was hoping someone would say.

If your lease qualifies you as "owning property" in SC, you might be able to get a non-resident SC permit.

I thought of this as well, but I don't fulfill either of these requirements

    (1) “Resident” means an individual who is present in South Carolina with the intention of making a permanent home in South Carolina or military personnel on permanent change of station orders.

    (2) “Qualified nonresident” means an individual who owns real property in South Carolina, but who resides in another state.

The form to prove ownership of real property is a notarized form from the county assessor.
