Reciprocity when I travelled
Took a little road trip, this weekend, to a family wedding in North Carolina. Carried my G23 with me the whole way, but when I got to states that had recirpocity with PA, I wanted to see how they would treat me without identifying myself as a retired LEO. Stopped at a sporting goods store in VA, outside Petersburg, was printing so obviously, on purpose, that I heard the guys's wife behind me say "is that a gun?" He introduced himself to me and never asked any questions about my firearm (great procedure). I asked him if there were any carry ammo restrictions in VA, and he said "Not as long as you have your carry permit". I told him I did, and showed him the PA permit, and he replied "Carry whatever you want, and welcome to Virginia, glad to see law-abiding citizens taking the time to ask to make sure they are correct". I thanked him for his time, and we shook hands and went on. Had a similar pleasant experience with a NC State Trooper, again very nice, very friendly, and even chatted for a few. When I finally told him that I was a retired LEO, he was even nicer.

Re: Reciprocity when I travelled
I took a trip to Dallas, TX in July. With the exception of the 20 or so miles through MD, I carried legally all the way (between PA LTCF and FL CWFL). Only Arkansas HP were a little spooky. I was getting gas, carried my snub crossdraw and it printed a bit, and an officer asked if I had a license for it. I told him I had a FL license, he said good because PA didn’t have reciprocity here. I asked if he would like to se it, he didn’t, only checking. Go figure…

Is there a list of states that accept PA LTCF as valid?

Re: Reciprocity when I travelled
MD DOES offer non-res permits. I wrote to the AG there a while back and got this response on 8-22-2007:
"Maryland does allow non-residents to apply for Maryland handgun carry
permits. An applicant must show a "good and substantial reason" to wear,
carry or transport a handgun.
For further information, you should contact the Licensing Division of the
Maryland State Police, (410) 799-0191.
Mark H. Bowen
Assistant Attorney General"
Of course having them being offered and trying to get one are very different things.Last edited by HiredGoon; October 8th, 2007 at 05:45 PM. Reason: Added date of response

Re: Reciprocity when I travelled
HiredGoon,
Thanks for the current information and contact #.
Now if we only knew what they considered a "good and substantial reason"..." For all lawful purposes" is my first reply/thought. I have family living in MD as well, and don't want to visit w/o being able to remain legal.
Thanks again,
