    Default post offices

Obviously, I know you can't carry there, since it is a federal building. My question is this: can you a firearm on post office grounds; say for example, you leave it locked in the car while running in?

I do NOT want to start the old post office thread again but IMO if you do believe that CCW in the post offic is illegal the basis of that position should NOT at all be the federal building point.

IAMNAL so this is simply my personal opnion.

If I need it anywhere, I need it there. Where do you think the term “Going Postal” originated?

Obviously, you don't know what you're talking about. It's completely legal to carry in a post office with a CWP valid in the state the post office is in.

This is what is posted on the poster on the wall in the Post Office:

    (a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

Here is subsection d which is not on the poster:

    (d) Subsection (a) shall not apply to—

    (3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

Isn't this a similar "basis" some use to claim you can carry in a school zone?

    Let me play devil's advocate.

Does the state licensed carry of a firearm constitute "engaging in a lawful purpose"?

Be careful, there is another Federal law that says otherwise. It directly contradicts the law just posted.

This was a hot topic many times at Packing.org over the years. And the general consensus was that we needed some case-law to clear things up, and until then it was suggested to stay clear of Postal property unless hunting - which you cant do indoors.
