Default Utah CFP Class - Harrisburg - OC Diatribe

Went to the Utah CFP class on Saturday June 5 in Harrisburg. Class itself was good, basic firearms stuff which Utah says everyone must know. 2 reasons for post:
    1) Talked about brandishing a firearm - a law which both Virginia and Utah have (according to the instructor). Instructor (from Virginia) said he did not know the law in PA…..one person apparently a LEO just out of the academy, says yes, PA has a brandishing law. I responded with, no, PA does not have a brandishing law, but you can be charged under other laws such as disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, assault, etc….Would-be LEO said she thought there was a brandishing law…..
    2) Open-carry was discussed for just a few minutes with great scorn by the instructor, also apparently a former LEO. Much fun was made of it, even the John Stewart open carry/Starbucks parody was played and everyone had a great laugh (except me). Instructor said this was a bad idea, if you were in Starbucks, a mother with a child next to you would call the police, nine squad cars would arrive and you would be thrown on the ground, handcuffed, your gun would be taken, you would be searched, etc. etc…the same old stuff we hear all the time but in reality never happens. Instructor says “STAY AWAY FROM IT, IT WILL ONLY CAUSE TROUBLE”.
Unfortunately I did not get a chance to talk with the instructor and let him know how much I did not appreciate his OC speech. Was most certainly uncalled for as it was just his opinion and no one got to speak their opinion. I am sending him an email through the website for the class. He is the owner of this company. The company that provided this training is:
Marksmen Masters Firearms Training Academy - Ashburn VA - www.helpmeshoot.com
    They advertise here on PAFOA.

Jason Shafer, a member of PAFOA, offers the Utah class. I took it when he held one in Adams County last year.

His web site is here... http://www.jsholsters.com/

He does stick to the curriculum that Utah requires, but he is also a resident of Pennsylvania and doesn't mind covering questions and discussions relevant to PA residents and laws.

His training page is here... http://www.jsholsters.com/training.asp

If you are looking for a Utah non-resident permit I recommend him highly. I found his course to be both informative and practical.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

We hosted Marksman Masters (helpmeshoot.com) twice in Bucks County and they were very well received. I am signed up for one of their NRA LEO division classes as a result. I just thought that I would post that they were recieved well with us with many forum members in attendance here in Bucks County. I don't recall to many OC discussions at our Utah classes with them but the instructor accepted a PA Open carry brochure and every student got one in their course packet.

    Just my opinion.

Agreed. I don't remember the OC topic even coming up in our class.

I'll praise OC if that means you'll come to my class.

I will be officially a Utah instructor as of August 14th. I hope to be an added addition and assistance to the PAFOA community!
