Default CC Piece for the Wife

The title really says it all. I'm looking for a CC handgun for my wife. She shoots my G26 well, has some problems limp-wristing my G19 with some FTE's, but really doesn't like the Glock grip profile much.

No revolvers, caliber 9mm or greater, polymer frame, and needs to be dead-on-nuts reliable. Cost isn't that much of a factor.

Suggestions? Maybe I should just give her the G26 and hope she learns to like it, as I did?

While my EDC is a Glock 19 and my wife's is a Glock 26, they are not for everyone.

Take a look at the S&W M&P compact 9mm, with the different back straps, it might fit her hands better. Very reliable and shootable handgun.

    Good luck with your choice.

If revolvers out of the question, she has a tendency to limp wrists and reliability must be excellent? Good luck, perhaps if you try enough you will find one that meets your criteria.

The M&P9c is excellent, Kel Tec PF-9, Taurus PT709 slim is awesome if I didn't already carry a G26 and LCP I would have one of these.

You should look into Kahr Arms. I have a Kahr CW40 that i really like. They make several varieties in several calibers.

I would have her rent a bunch of guns to try. How it fits her hand is very hard to determine without her actually shooting it. Many people hate the Glocks grip but it feels like it was made for my hand, go figure.

M&P is a good recommendation because of the changing backstraps which are also availalble on Gen4 Glocks. I would also give your wife some instruction on her grip to try and prevent the limp wristing. If you can limpwrist a Glock to failure then you can probably do it to any autoloader.

Google "limp wrist test" and see some examples of pretty serious limp-wristing (really, kind of "non-wristing.") Most firearms just shoot away without worry, while Glocks were consistently sensitive.

My wife went through many guns at the store before she picked one. Racked the slides and dry fired. She ended up getting the M&Pc 9mm with Crimson Trace laser. After the training we have gone to she is getting very good at tactical shooting.

If she shoots a G26 well I bet she would shoot an XD9 Subcompact even better. Many people find the 1911 style grip angle of the XD series much more natural than that of a Glock. My EDC gun is my XD9 Service and I love it. Having the extra safety on the grip is very reassuring, and it shoots amazingly. I have had no malfunctions with 600 rounds of FMJs and 100 rounds of JHP.

If she is going to be betting her life on a gun, it should be something that she is entirely comfortable with. If the G26 isn't her first choice, then she shouldn't be carrying it.
