Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
Hello All.
My question is this:
can you and/or do you carry concealed at the tulio arena(concerts, circus, expos, bayhawks, otters, etc.)??
How about the Warner Theater, the bayfront convention center?
How about seawolves games?
How about presque isle? waldameer?
Now some info for you:
I contacted the Erie City Police: as long as you have a permit, you can legally carry during Erie Days, Block Parties, summer concerts. They stated I would have to check with each venue (Tulio arena, seawolves games, etc.) because that is a private organization not generally covered by the city police.
I contacted Ron Desser who is the director of facilities for the Tulio Arena, the Warner Theater, and the Bayfront Convention Center. I asked him what is the policy for concealed carry, his response was "It is our policy that we don't want guns in our venues and we don't want you to bring them, even if you have a permit."
What exactly does this statement mean?
I have not been able to speak with someone about the Seawolves games, presque isle, or waldameer.
Myself, my wife and kids will be visiting several of these areas throughout the summer and I want to make sure of the laws for concealed carry in each.
Thanks for the info!!

For private property they are allowed to search you as a condition of admittance. Once admitted agents of the property cannot search you again however they can ask you to leave and if you don't comply you can be charged with trespassing.
I used to live in Erie and the only time I remember being searched at any of those venues was concerts at Tulio Arena/Civic Center. However I have not lived in Erie in post 9/11 times when security may be tighter now. I have been to some events in recent years. Most of the pat downs at concerts where just the sides and coat pockets. YMMV.
Pretty much every place has a policy against firearms so expect that response that they don't want your firearm at there venue. But if you carry and are found out expect to be asked to leave.Last edited by QuackXP; May 28th, 2010 at 12:20 PM.

Re: Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
More info:
Presque Isle - yes, you are allowed concealed carry as long as you have your permit. This law was changed last year (as soon as the man told me this I remembered reading about the law change) so you are now allowed to carry in a state park.
Waldameer - I was asked many questions about me carrying a weapon (are you police, why do you carry, why would you carry). I was told very definitely "it is our policy that we do not allow weapons in the park"
Again....what does this statement mean???
From everything I have read, state law trumps a private organization's policy regarding concealed carry. The private organization must have the appropriate signs posted, and even then you are not breaking any laws. If it is discovered you are carrying, they can ask you to leave.
I am not trying to be difficult by any means, I just want to make sure I am carrying legally wherever I go.
Looking for some more info from anyone with experience.
Thanks.

Re: Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
Presque Isle is a state park, answer above is correct.
I have been to all of the above mentioned venues except the Tulio Arena in the past year. I have not seen any prominantly displayed signage prohibiting
firearms at any of those places. They also did not search me.
I was at the Tulio Arena about two years ago for a circus...no signage or searches at that time. I do remember years ago, at concerts, I would be searched, but I believe they were looking for booze.
Hope that helps.Last edited by ChuckS; May 28th, 2010 at 01:09 PM.

I go to most of the Saturday night Otter games, and have never been searched. There are "no weapons" signs at the doors, and city cops.

Re: Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
with regard to the "no weapons" signs, or something similar.....am I assuming correctly that this does not fall under the state law, it is a private venue's policy. Therefore, as was stated earlier, I can carry concealed LEGALLY, but if I am searched or checked, I will be asked to return my weapon to my vehicle, but no crime has been committed?
Those who have posted about going to any of these areas, have you carried concealed?

Taker... you sound like a bright fellow. You must know what it means when they say "no firearms on my property".
Translation: THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO BRING A FIREARM ON TO THEIR PROPERTY
I hope my translation helps.

Re: Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
"Want" is the verb. Grandpa used to say, "Want in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up first."
The PA state law on preemption is very clear - you can't make gun laws locally.
The PA LTCF allows concealed carry many places with noted exceptions.
Private property is a different matter.
The property owner can prohibit guns.
However, bringing a gun onto private property, even where the sign says "no guns" is not a crime. All they can do is ask you to leave, and arrest for defiant trespass if you don't.
With all that in the hopper, let's distill it down. Here's what I do:
1. Conceal carry everywhere not prohibited by statute.
2. Take my money away from places that don't support my agenda.American by BIRTH, Infidel by CHOICE

Re: Tulio Arena, Seawolves, Block parties, etc...carry concealed?
I have said it a hundred times... I have carried everywhere , all my life, with the exception of Federal Buildings, Post Offices, Schools, CONCEALED.
I don't telegraph the fact I'm carrying and have NEVER been asked to leave anywhere. Conceal it, don't print, keep your mitts off it and don't draw attention to yourself. Over the years it has become as a piece of clothing, I don't pay any attention to it until I need it.
In 40 years it has only been unholstered twice for a bad situation...
