Chicago Mayor Daley offers to shoot reporter to prove gun ban works

Who are we to criticize a politician's choice of words? It's a tough job. You have to be expressive to get your message out.
Is the best way to demonstrate the benefits of gun control by picking up a rifle and offering to shoot a reporter?
Leave that to the PR experts. What do we know?
But that apparently was Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's strategy.
At a news conference to discuss Chicago's gun ban and the Supreme Court's pending ruling on the issue, a reporter from the Chicago Reader asked him if the ban was effective.
"Since guns are readily available in Chicago even with a ban in place, do you really think it’s been effective?" asked Mick Dumke.
“Oh!” Daley said. “It’s been very effective!”
He grabbed a rifle, held it up, and looked right at me. He was chuckling but there was no smile.
“If I put this up your—ha!—your butt—ha ha!—you’ll find out how effective this is!”
“If I put a round up your—ha ha!”
Dumke said the room became "very, very quiet" before reporters realized he was joking.
Daley's press flak said the mayor didn't regret the remarks but said by offering to place the gun in the reporter's rear end "could admittedly be considered a less-than-ideal example."

Re: King Daley offers to shoot reporter
It doesn't even make sense...
"Is the gun ban effective?"
"If I shoot you, you'll see how effective it is!"
I mean, that would show that the *gun* was effective.... Maybe he misunderstood the question? Maybe he thought the reporter was asking whether a ban was needed, because maybe guns aren't effective themselves? I don't know, I don't have my "moron to english" dictionary in front of me.

Re: King Daley offers to shoot reporter
Even if he pointed the rifle at that guy, he would still go unpunished and would probably get reelected. Chicago is a liberal Dem haven. It's a shame, because downtown Chicago is beautiful. Fun place to visit. I would probably visit there outside of my work-related travel if it weren't run by tools.

Re: King Daley offers to shoot reporter
it was a good way of not answering the question. was it a press conference to address the gun ban why else would he had access to an UNLOADED rifle, cause i know he didn't point a loaded one at someone.

Re: King Daley offers to shoot reporter
He was being a typical, liberal politician in that video. He didn't answer the question, he simply stated that many lives were saved by seizing that SKS and other guns. I will have to assume they were seized from violent criminals for him to be potentially correct. But, he didn't answer the question at all.

If the gun ban was effective, why was there gun to be confiscated?

Daley says he regrets 'butt' gun remark
"The awkward situation led to more odd back-and-forth today.
"It was a gun with a bayonet," Daley said, referring to the weapon he picked up Thursday. "Just think, a gun with a bayonet. What is a bayonet used for?"
When it was suggested bayonets are not for sticking in butts, Daley replied, "Well, you stick it anyplace. It's a bayonet, so let's not make trivia about this.""
