Just got around to reading this one.

The last time I was at the courthouse to re-apply for my LTCF, I had the hassle from the deputies. After sending the office a letter I got a phone call from a seargent. While talking to the seargent, I asked him about the work number, since I did not put one on the application. I told him I did not want them to call as it might effect my employment. He told me that was fine and that they don't really need it. This was in October 2008.

    +1

About the 4 years ago, applied, no issues, no calls, nada. 2 years ago, wife applied, same thing, no fuss, no muss.

    Is this something new?

If so, will be pissed come renewal time.

I know that they never contacted my personal references either, I was rather shocked and disappointed they didn't.

They never checked any of my ref's or contacted my employer.

2 1/2 weeks into my wait period and no calls to anyone yet. I will keep an eye out.

Hello, New to this site/org. Seems like a good resource.
Does anyone know what the status of this employment ref check is. I recently downloaded the application and I think it still had the employer line item on it. I will be requesting LTCF shortly but am currently unemployed. Laid off after 10 yrs with my last employer. Has being unemployed created an issue for anybody? BTW I totaly agree that its an issue that the Sheriff is contacting employers... I hope it stops.. may write council if its still on the app.

There shouldn't be any problem with writing unemployed in that line. I wrote Student in mine without any problems.

The official LTCF application is set by the state police, not the sheriff or local officials.

As mentioned, being unemployed (or a student) has nothing to do with being qualified to get a LTCF.

Of course, some sheriffs make up their own illegal rules for getting a license.

Unless you have events in your history or pending that could make you ineligible - there's really no "answer" - it's shall issue unless there's a reason not to..
