Default MARYLAND NOW HAS A SELF DEFENSE LAW!

On Thursday, May 20, 2010, Governor Martin O’Malley (D) signed into law a long awaited self-defense measure giving Maryland’s law-abiding citizens the ability to protect themselves and loved ones from harm.

Senate Bill 411, sponsored by State Senator Mac Middleton (D-28), provides civil immunity from damages when force, including deadly force, is used under reasonable circumstances to repel an attack in the person’s dwelling or place of business. Pursuant to Maryland law, this measure will be effective on October 1, 2010.

Please contact Governor O’Malley and thank him for signing SB 411 into law. The Governor can be reached by phone at (410) 974-3901 or toll-free at 1-800-811-8336.

The law only applies to ones dwelling or place of business, that sucks. This is some progress, but not much. Perhaps Maryland will one day become a more evolved and enlightened state. In the meantime, fuck Maryland, I will spend my money elsewhere.

errr if you use a fire arm to "blow his brains out" or "give him a flesh wound" it's the same thing, use of deadly force. Sorry, but your post shows an intense misunderstanding of PA laws. In PA we are NOT required to retreat from our homes, and BOTH examples you gave above ARE examples of deadly force.

"provides civil immunity from damages" I read this as saying the bad guy can't sue your ass if the shooting is deemed justifiable. This would be nice to have in PA.

I may be wrong, but IIRC under current law you can only use deadly force against an intruder in your home in PA if you believe you or a loved one are in imminent danger.

One of the changes that HB40 introduces IIRC is to clarify that any intrusion in and of itself implies imminent danger to the occupants. However without that, if someone breaks in, unless you can see he is visibly armed or is visibly intent on harming you or your family you can't defend your home.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a home owner prosecuted in Philly or some other libtard area for shooting an intruder because the intruder wasn't visibly armed. i.e. that the intruder either concealed their weapon or at the time of the shooting didn't have one in his hand. Anyway, that's PA.

In one way this Maryland law is better than our CURRENT (read: without HB40) law: it grants immunity from civil suit to those who exercise their right to defend themselves.
