Question Anyone know what kind of rifle this is? (WW2)

The photo's below are of a gun my grandfather may have used in WW2, It's currently in my Step-mom's house in South Carolina so all I have are these photo's. I didn't take the photo's nor have I seen this weapon in person.

Her brother took it to a couple dealers to find a bolt for it, but without knowing the manufacturer they've had no luck.

There is only one "mark" on the gun, a sun looking thing seen in the third photo.

They say it's worth fixing if they can find a bolt.

If you recognize this rifle any and all info you could provide (cal. make etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Looks like maybe a "Last Ditch" version too... does it have a wooden buttplate or metal?

One made for that Japanese Imperial Army at that!

Here's a good link for your rifle...

Apparently it's a pretty generic rifle though.

I'll ask her, I have not seen it in person, all I have are the three photo's.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

    Sober,
I know that these are actually getting harder to find. Your relative may have "brought this back" with him, because according to www.surplusrifle.com

"At the end of WWII the chrysanthemum (mum) markings on the receivers of surrendered Japanese rifles were removed. The sixteen petal mum is the imperial symbol of the Japanese Emperor. Below is an example of one that escaped being defaced."

I would imagine that the chrysanthemum markings would add some value to a collector, or yourself. I love these old rifles. The history behind them is fascinating. Check out the link and read about others.

here is one with the "mum" ground off with no further import markings going for a hefty price

here is one that may "match" yours if you replace the bolt, "mum" in tact, battlefield pick up, mismatched bolt

    Cool rifle man.

Actually you're not totally wrong. The WW2 Arisakas used a slightly modified Mauser action. The only real difference is the way the Arisaka's cocking knob looked and the safety.
