Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
Rem 870. Cheap, durable, accurate. I had gotten mine a few years back, and still use it as my primary clay shotgun. I've tried others, and just am not satisfied. Sometimes, you don't need to spend a lot of money for a good gun.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
I have a Remington 870 Express with 28" barrel and Rem-choke, that gun is very balanced and i always wanted the 870 so i can modify it later into a tactical shotgun.
i can always buy a 18" barrel and while its in my bedroom i keep the 18" on and use the 28" barrel for hunting and shooting clays.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
Good choice, Beretta makes nice guns.
A friend of mine who went dove hunting in Argentina said they were the only ones that held up over the Benelli, Remington, Browning, and Winchester.
Remingtons probably would not hold up with that much shooting.
That is why I hope to get a Beretta or Benelli Supersport II.
Good luck.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
A price range would be very helpful. The 390s are very good guns.
I've owned most of the shotguns mentioned here. Of the autos, the Benelli has been, by far, the most reliable for me. I've got tens of thousands of rounds through one of them (sport 2). Another has over ten thousand through it. They are not fussy about ammo, they are far easier to clean than any other auto on the market. They are pricey though.
The most important thing about any shotgun is the fit. If the gun does not fit you, shooting will be much more challenging.
Good luck.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
I'm in the exact same boat. Been using a 870 (I too have 18" & 28" barrel) and its been ok but inconsistent. One outing I can't hit anything. Next time I almost can't miss. Don't know if its the gun or me. A guy I shoot with has a Beretta 391 Uriks which is what I'm looking for after shooting it.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
I'd love to own a Beneli but the Rem 870 does it for me right now.
I'm not going out for serious competition, just kicking back and having fun and it gets the job done pretty well, any error is almost definitely on me.

Re: I need help on shotgun purchase
I am a HUGE Beretta fan. I have probably put about 30,000 shells through mime since I bought it 2 years ago. I have a 391, and spent about $1k on it. I simply love that gun.
The 390 series is also a solid choice. I know a lot of people who love theirs. I went with the 391 since it was lighter and worked better for me for Olympic skeet.
Just a word of warning, clay target is addicting. Especially if you get involved with a team and go to competitions. Also, if you're in college, check if your school has a clay target or shotgun team. I can say from experience they are generally a great group of people.Last edited by jokusfocus; May 22nd, 2010 at 10:04 AM.
