Pistol Qualification Course with 1911
I finally got to take my new Remington 1911 R1 to the range yesterday. I shot a qualification course similar to the course my department uses. The shoot went like this:
6 rounds per mag
All rounds start with the handgun holstered and with a round chambered.
Must hit 33 out of 48. According to my dept. the shots should be center mass. However, I was shooting for what I was taught to be the "incapacation zone" which is approx the width of the neck and from the base of the neck to the bottom of the sternum. I only pulled 2 out, however they were still center mass.
ROUND 1: 3 yards - 35 seconds - 6 right hand only, 6 left hand only.
ROUND 2: 7 yards - 35 seconds - 12 rounds
ROUND 3: 15 yards - 45 seconds - 12 rounds standing
ROUND 4: 15 yards - 45 seconds - 12 rounds kneeling
My gun ran great. It ate the cheapest stuff I could find without a hiccup. I'm very satisified with it's performance. You can follow this link to the picture of my gun and target after the course: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...00000459083628

Re: Pistol Qualification Course with 1911
I am surprised that your dept. doesn't shoot ANY from the 25 yard line. The only reason I ask is because MPOTEC guidlines indicate a minimum of a 50 round qualification with at LEAST 10% of the rounds fired from the 25. Glad the Remmy worked out for you.

+1 on the 25 yard line.
My qual is 30 rounds long, I shoot it with my P220 and three 10 round magazines. 3 yards, 7 yards, 15 yards, 25 yards and one untimed freebee from the 50 yard line.
Blue silhouette target, must hit inside the lethal "bowling pin" to count. 25 of 30 is passing. Pain in the ass.
I'd love to shoot your qual. The M1. Smackin' the bastards since 1932.

Re: Pistol Qualification Course with 1911
Sorry for straying off course, but here's a question for you guys,
This thread got me thinking, would it be worthwhile to start a thread (and in what section? Training?) where we can exchange qualification courses of fire for people to try out?
I know that there are some high-speed types that "poo-poo" qualification courses, but for some of us they are a way of comparing our skill levels to our peers, so we can see where we stand and what specific things we need or should be working on.
I know that there are some qualification courses that have some pretty good drills in them. Others, not so much.
Just a thought anyways.

You have to have a range that doesn't mind a whole bunch of guys drawing and rapidly firing three shots. Most ranges near me won't permit "rapid firing"

Oh...duh! I just looked under the Training section and BEHOLD!!! There's an entire section dedicated to online target competition.

Ok, I'll start up a thread in that part of the Training section. Even though I don't necessarily look at it as competition, they will give some of us a good chance to test/evaluate our skills.

And yes, I agree with SCBaldr about being able to get a range where you can actually run some of the different courses of fire.Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.
