Re: Surely just another conspiracy theory... or something...
Tucker says the crime rate is worse in braddock than honduras per capita..
Edit: Just googled braddock. Damn, the masonry architecture is out of this world.
Reminds me of steampunk era. What a lost art, those buildings should be on a historical
list. That type of architecture is a lost art.FJB

Re: Surely just another conspiracy theory... or something...
I got in trouble for saying that about a little town south of Pittsburgh, but I said there was one light in town, and it was red. I drove through because a girl I worked with when I was in the Navy was from there. After I said that to her she never talked to me again. Belle Vernon. Wow, just looked it up, even smaller now, only 1100 population.

Re: Surely just another conspiracy theory... or something...
I'm not too far away, was born there. Fortunately, my parents built a house near Irwin in rural Westmoreland county and moved out of Braddock when I was 6 months old. It wasn't too bad back then in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's, other than the filthy steel mill grit that covered everything in town.
But that's what fueled the town economy was the Edgar Thompson mill. I had lots of relatives working there back in the heyday.
Used to visit there a lot when I was a kid.
I had a relative, now passed on, who was a Braddock LEO for years.
He was there for the big transition from an average blue collar mill hunk town to crackheads running around with Uzi's, like wannabes on an old Miami Vice episode. But on a much smaller scale of course. Open prostitution, abandoned crack babies, and the town was so broke that the cops had to pay out of pocket to put gas in their police cruisers. If they were broke down or out of service, the cops used their own cars, and sometimes waited weeks or months for a paycheck and reimbursement.
Still have a few relatives living there, in the only half decent section remaining on the north outskirts.
It started getting ghetto when the mill damn near closed and the crack cocaine dealers took over in the 1980's. Most of the businesses shut down and boarded up became graffiti and obscenity covered.
Probably in the 1990's U.S. Steel made a big investment in a 'continous casters' technology, and started hiring.
A couple of guys I know who were laid off for up to 5 years actually got called back to work At Edgar Thompson.
But the town never recovered, people didn't move back.
Then.... Along came Fetterwoman.....
I haven't and will not go there, except for the very occasional funeral of a first cousin.

^^
I like driving through such places once in a while to remind myself how bad things can get.

Well you have to give Fetterwoman credit where it's due. All the overgrown trees and vegetation are turning the town green, helping to offset the steel mill's carbon footprint.😂
Thanks for posting the video, for me it was a bit nostalgic, but also saddening too, seeing it now.
Back in the 1960's my older cousins would always have an extra bicycle sitting around that one of them outgrew. We would ride all over lots of those streets in the video.
I thought I saw the old hospital in one clip. I thought it was torn down, but I guess not yet.
I know it was closed for a long time and UPMC purchased it. I remember hearing the locals being pissed off because UPMC bought it and didn't reopen it. Ha, obviously just a real estate investment and not worth it to invest and reopen it.
It's a shame, being in the shadows of Kennywood Amusement Park, and then it becomes what it is.
One of my uncle's house was practically on a cliff above the river and had a nice view of Kennywood across the river.
Too bad that most of it is now a ghetto slum. So many once nice vintage houses and buildings are literally collapsing now.

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
