    Default Cocobolo 1911 Grips

I want to get a set of cocobolo grips for my 1911... Price is not an option and I want to find the highest quality grips I can. Suggestions anyone? Pics would be appreciated.

There are many, and you could post this question over on 1911forum.com as well, but one of the popular answers would be Sarge's Grips, at:

    http://www.thefinergrain.com/

Also very popular and maybe a bit more expensive, Esmeralda Grips...

    http://www.esmeralda.cc/

There is some seriously nice looking stuff at both sites.

Thanks! I have seen Sarge's before but have not run into anyone who had gotten grips from there yet. The photos are sooooooo nice!

Yeah, both sites are showing grips that'll knock yer socks off.

I have a cheap-ass $39 set I found on ebay a year ago or so. While they don't compare to Sarge or Esmeralda, I like 'em enough for the price.

Here are the grips as seen on the ebay ad...

And here they are on my Kimber, although the pic taken with my cell phone came out a little to dark to really show them. In person they look exactly like the TOP pic.

Have you noticed any darkening of the wood? I have been reading that they (cocobolo) look better over time.

I can't say that I have, and to be fair, I don't even recall whether they are cocobolo, rosewood, or whatever.

They have a pretty good layer of polyurethane (or whatever) on the front, so I suppose if enough solvent or oil soaked through from the other side it would eventually take it's toll, but I might expect the grips would be showing their age from wear and tear by then as well.

I'll second the recommendation for Esmeralda Grips. I've seen her work, and one day, I hope, I'll have the spare money to get a nice set for my gun.
