Standard background check and a 10-15 hour course (5 classroom, 10 range, perhaps) sounds about right to me.

NO on a federal license. I'm against any license, but if we have to have 'em, they should be like a driver's license and be recognized in any state that allows concealed carry.

No business in it. Keep it at a state level. The fed's too big already.

2nd Amendment. Everyone can carry anywhere. No Training. No ID required. Nothing. That is the way the framers of the constitution put it and that is the way it should be. PA has no training requirement. Vermont has no Training and anyone can carry. Alaska Has this and anyone can carry. There is not blood running in the streetst there. If you put a test on the 2nd Amendment then there should be a test for every religion. Every Thing You Write. Every time you want to use the 5th Amendment. Every time you need any of the Bill of Rights then you should have to go to a class. Pass a written and practical test and then pay some money to avail yourself of the right.

Federalism be damned, I'd support a Federal LTCF program that is in addition to the state permit programs. If I'm getting the concept right, it would be a type of permit that overrides any state's gun laws in exchange for going through rigorous screening by the Feds. It sounds like it would be costly, so I'd probably wait a few years until my financial situation allows it. But hell, if I could afford the cost, I wouldn't mind going through exams and formal training as I acknowledge it would exist "above" the state licensing system, so to speak, and wouldn't be trampling on anyone's rights, really. Except, arguably, the states, although an additional federal LTCF would fit into "interstate commerce" about 99% better than the other laws using it as a justification.

But a federal LTCF instead of state LTCFs? Hell no!

    How about....

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

    I'd be all for that!

Not for me thanks. Having to ask the local Sheriff for permission to cc is bad enough, I can't imagine what authority could be entrusted with that kind of decision making power and how long it would take at the Federal level. IMHO, The LTCF is required strictly to give anti-gunners a warm and fuzzy feeling that their government is protecting them from gun-totin' madmen. Law abiding citizens can get one (maybe) and criminals don't give a shit and carry them anyway and taking it to the Federal level moves us one step closer to losing our rights to ownership.

I second that. It makes no sense that I can drive my 40 foot motorhome through NYC with no training or city driving experience whatsoever, or for that matter go out and rent an RV I've never driven before and drive coast to coast, yet I have to lock up my gun if I drive out of the state. Total BS.
