What's the best looking AK for NJ?
Hi all,
I just visited my good friend in PA and he showed me a fabulous AK47. And now I want one too, but alas I live in the PRNJ. What is the deal here? Sorry but I am still not sure about all the rules for AWs - 2 evils max, etc. Can I buy one and be legal in NJ if it has a fixed stock, no bayonet mount or threading, a 10-round clip, and a pistol-style grip? In other words, can my 2 evils include the pistol-grip?
Sorry if I appear hung up on the grip, but the guns do absolutely look much better with this!
Cheers for any advice.

Perhaps not exactly what you asked, but my choice for an AK when I lived in NJ was one of these:

I think that this price is up a bit, but who knows what the market will bear.

You can probably get a SAIGA in NJ. They are honest to god Russian factory built AK clones with sporter furniture installed to skirt the AWB bullshit that runs free in NJ and other such states. They are extremely reliable and an unconverted version is rather inexpensive all things considered.

Well thank you both for some excellent suggestions.
Would I be correct in thinking that a reputable dealer with a shop in NJ would not sell me anything contraband? In other words, I could just go there and pick whatever AK-clone or Saiga they had on display?

Re: What's the best looking AK for NJ?
Let's put it this way; a reputable FFL in NJ that wants to stay out of jail and in the gun business is NOT going to bother offering stuff that he legally can't sell.
If he has it on public display it is almost certainly fully NJ-legal. If it wasn't NJ-legal and on public display, well - he's dumber than a PA voter for his looney attempt at waiting to get busted on a firearms violation.
Not good.
Go and ask your local NJ FFL what HE CAN get you, in terms of a legal NJ AK.
And as others have said; the SAIGA - even in a "sporty" non-PG config - is one hoot-ass of a rifle to shoot. To me, it feels great just as it is, like an uber-SKS only 10x more accurate.Last edited by nfafan; May 2nd, 2009 at 11:43 PM.

Where in NJ would have a good selection of this stuff? Any ideas? I'm near Trenton.
