    Default What's an "assault weapon"?

The other day a coworker commented that he wasn't anti-gun but saw no reason that anyone should own an assault weapon. So I hit him with my fist . . . no, I hit him with the question, "what is an assault weapon?"

He said, "You know what I mean." I said, "no, define it for me." He said, "you know what I mean." I repeated my request. He wouldn't answer.

My one sister-in-law once brought up the need to ban Saturday Night Specials. I asked her to define what she meant and all she could do was babble.

Gotta love the anti-gunners who don't even know what they are protesting.

Do one better, build rapport and then invite one to go shooting. Take a .22 and a bunch of ammo and targets.

Second time today I couldn't rep Steve. Need to find some other posts worth repping.

But anyhow, after they can't define it, I explain that "assault weapon" was a term made up by anti-gun people to describe guns that are menacing looking or simply semi-automatic rifles. And I always offer to take people shooting. People love shooting, even if they don't know it!

Actually, I think that we (gun people) are to thank for that. Back in the 80s and early 90s before all the hub-bub about evil black guns, "assault this" and "assault that" were flung about in Shotgun News ads and the cheaper gun rags.

Don't know if that would do any good. He was on the school rifle team in high school and college.

If that's the case my car is an assault weapon if I run you over with it, or my hammer is if I beat you with it.

the actual definition of an "assault weapon" is this:

a select fire, magazine fed rifle/carbine chambered in an intermediate cartridge

    examples OF:
a select fire m16 is an assault weapon

a select fire AK-47 is an assault weapon

things that are NOT an assault weapon:

a select fire HK G3, or FN/FAL is NOT an assault weapon... its a main battle rifle. MBRs MAY be select fire, but they ARE chambered in a full size cartridge such as 7.5 Swiss, 308, 30-06, 303, etc.

a select fire HK MP-5 is NOT an assault weapon, it is a submachine gun, its chambered in a PISTOL cartridge.

    *******************************************

now, all that aside.... an "assault weapon" as the media and antigunners describe is anything thats: used in a crime, a semiauto(or not) a pistol (or not) is military styled (or not) is magazine fed (or not)....

and EVERY gun is an "assault weapon" as popularly told by the sensationalist media, and the deliberately deceitful tactics of the antigun organizations who want to control PEOPLE under the guise of controlling "guns".

explain THAT to your friend...its about PEOPLE control, not guns, no matter what the guns look like or do.

I can tell you, personally, that momentum is building to oust her. Hopefully my friends and I will be a part of it. Cross your fingers, we are working hard behind enemy lines. Her county just went to a red county executive, Ed Mangano. The pressure is on.

I thought Assault Weapons were AK-47's that were designed to spray fire heat-seeking bullets from the hip to shoot down 747's!
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.
