Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
The cost of ammo is ridiculous. I'm not out, but i certainly don't have enough that i could go and burn through it and be able to replace it. 600$ cases of 9mm are unsustainable as a recreational shooter.
I know, gun control isn't about controlling the guns. It's about controlling the ammo. I get that there are A LOT of new shooters. But i seriously doubt they are buying up cases at a time.
I'm also not criticizing anybody who is 40 cases deep of 9mm. I don't have those kind of resources. But if i did, i would be there too.
It looks like I'm going to be shooting a lot of 22. Maybe some conversion kits are in my future. Any suggestions?

Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
My carbine pictured has a dedicated 22LR upper/barrel, but since this topic came up, I looked to see how stock was at various vendors who sell the CMMG conversion kit.
Lots are out of stock - almost all of them actually.
These have typically gone for $150-$170 on sale.
I found one in stock for a pretty good price - especially considering $5 flat rate shipping.

For those like myself who already own the mags, you CAN get JUST the conversion "BCG", but they aren't as common.

If you have a deep enough stash you can shoot steadily and then hope to resupply once things even out...
I'm also the type of shooter that 50-100 rounds a week is enough to keep skills sharp. You can readjust your training to be more efficient.

The pretentious HK snobs are. I guess buying 2-3 guns @ $3000-$4000 each over a couple months doesn't pinch their budgetary constraints. Times like these are certainly tough, especially for new shooters.

Re: Who can actually afford to shoot right now?
I can shoot all I want I have a very large stockpile, however since all I do is work this year I have no time to go to the range. I am still buying ammo when I can find a reasonable deal. Lately that is hard to do also. It is going to be this probably till next summer.

I haven't bought any 9mm since I spent about $400 to buy a reloading press with supplies from a member here. So far I've reloaded 400 rnds and I still have about another 100 to go before I need bullets. The deal came with about a half pound of powder that I still have a good amount of, a few thousand brass cases, and about 1500 primers. I'm good to go for a while, that is if I even had time to make it to the range.
