i was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get a thompson 1927 and how much they are running new? are there different companies making them and what owners think of them. i'm undecided between this and the kriss and definately can't afford both. thanks.

Here you go ...
http://www.auto-ordnance.com/
Brand New Tommy Guns. Depending on what you get expect $1000 - $1500 for one.
If your looking for a FA ... they run about $18K - $20K I think. Check subguns or impact guns

The auto ord guns look pretty solid. Like Mojo said, if you are looking for the real deal, get ready to refinance the house.

Man, I'd love to have a Chicago Typewriter! Even semi would be cool...just something about them!

At 20 plus lbs, recoil is not an issue with semi auto. The new ones are made on old Thompson tooling. I got one used, and have no probs with it. It is fun to shoot.

Re: thompson .45
You brought up an interesting gun... I have an original pre-Khar Auto-Ordnance 1927A1 Deluxe I bought from Guzyk's waaay back when.
Tons of fun, literally and figuratively. The gun, not Mark.
Anyway, the guns WITH the Cutts Comps were always available during the Klinton ban - but the drums over 10rds dissappeared - and were expen$ive.
Same for the never-sold-too-well "pistol" version; the 1927A5.
When the ban lifted, I snagged a 50rd L drum, runs like a top - but a drum-dump can be pricey.
Whatever you do, do NOT get a used 1927A3 .22LR; very finicky and not well made for what you will pay.
Anyway, a variant to consider for future collectiablility is the re-introduced "TA5" - which replaces the now gone and collectible 1927A5 "pistol".Last edited by nfafan; November 7th, 2008 at 12:17 PM.

Re: thompson .45
thanks everyone. FA and original are not a consideration and i'm not interested in the pistol. i came across a used one in a local shop a while ago for $850 with violin case and drum mag and am kicking myself for not buying.i also see they are making an aluminum lightweight model for an ok price, does anyone have any experience with this model? thanks.

Re: thompson .45
That'd be the 1927A1C - the so-called lightweight, which is what I later discovered that I actually bought.
As mentioned in a prior post, I have the A-O made "Deluxe" version - has the Cutts, finned barrel, verticle foregrip, blued steel. This adds a ton of steel to the machined aluminum bar they used for the upper receiver.
Unless you had a magnet, or just held (lugged) an all-steel one - so as to immediately compare, you would be hard-pressed to see a differance as it is still a hefty-ass carbine.
And the bluing is "real' for lack of a better way to explain it, it's not like anodized aluminum hotrod parts or anything like that.
I added the aftermarket EZ-Pull spring set to mine, as OOTB, these puppies use recycled cement-mixer springs behind the bolt; not something you hand to a 10yr old at the range and say here kid, have fun.
OTOH, the stock recoil spring could serve as a built-in safety...
BTW, at least once a month Dunhams has the new Khar-made ones for $100.00 off retail - which is still expensive. But OTOH, these are not typically in the racks of just any fun store.Last edited by nfafan; November 7th, 2008 at 04:08 PM.
