Default Looking for a decently priced progressive press

Well...it's time to move up in the world.

Caa2003's Dad and I reload on his OLD RCBS single-stage press. We're looking for a decently priced progressive that won't break the bank...We're thinking something under $400 that's reliable and is more modern could fit the bill...

    Any suggestions?

PS-we will be placing his old RCBS equipment up for sale in the next few weeks so PM if you're interested.

If you are loading pistol we have had good results from the LEE Pro 1000. Cheap enough that we have 3 set up for different calibers. Don't know how long they will last as the oldest is only 10 or 12 yrs. old.

I'll second the Lee Pro 1000. I have two of them and shell carriers for four calibers. One of them I have used for about fifteen years for loading my .45ACP ammo. It has at least 50K rounds through it. The only thing that has ever broken was a little plastic gear. Lee sent me a couple free of charge. It has been fine since. I use the other for .44 mag, .38 Spl., 9mm.
I also have a Dillon Square Deal B for loading 9mm. That press is wonderful. Customer support is great. It is pricier, though, than the Lee press and Dillon's proprietary dies are expensive should you want to change calibers.
Another press from Dillon that is worth a look is the RL550B. I use that one for loading 30-06/308/.45 ACP. It is not a true "full" progressive as it requires a manual advancement of the shell carrier - though that is VERY easy to do. It uses standard dies and cartridge changes are the easiest of the three presses I've mentioned.
The Lee is the least expensive but all three are under $400.

I would suggest you keep the RCBS press, you will find it useful.

useful how? Her Dad's been reloading for many many years and he's tired of taking the slow route. He wants to use a progressive press for faster turnouts.

Second that, if you start working up loads with powder and bullet variances it's much easier. I use an old Texan turret press which serves me well but I mainly reload for .45acp, 44, 38, 8mm and .308.
Would like a progressive though, the lazy factor rears it ugly head, just have not budgeted for one or I get side tracked and forget to get one, would come in handy for the .45's, 500 rounds goes pretty fast.

looks like a decent deal..esp the 1,000 free bullets....that right there is saving a good chunk of change.

can you use rcbs dies with LEE presses? Most of the dies we use, except for my .40 S&W are ALL RCBS dies.
